Perfect call by the refs. Terrible penalty in the rulebook by the IIHF. They really need to get their act together and fix that rule so that, as you say, we can see some real hockey in this tournament.

Welcome to the sport of ice hockey. If things like this offend you, you should go find something else to watch.

It was a clean hit.

Um ... or maybe you Canadians need to wake up and learn how the hockey under IIHF rule works? I mean it isn't our imaginary country of Europe, who is complaining about this year after year...

Anyway, as already been said in this thread:

Perfect call by the referee. Great IIHF reffing.
The hit was not delivered to the head/neck. It was shoulder to chest.

I have a big problem with that.
With that rule lower your head to draw a penalty, might as well take contact of of the game.

Another thing that really pisses me off when I see players ducking to avoid a body and taking someones knees out.

My view;

Lipon should be suspended. Hit was light, but it was dirty and interference. He's a moron for that hit. He should get 1-game, no doubt about it.

Camara hit was vicious BUT very clean. Awesome hit. Feel sorry for the Slovak kid, but the hit was clean. He should not get a suspension and should actually get a public apology from the IIHF if the rumours are true of the refs telling him it was clean before throwing him out.

So in quick terms;

Lipon should get 1 game. Camara shouldn't be suspended.

NA-hockey and european hockey are played very differently. There are a lot of differences from the rinksize up to some rule differences especially regarding hits and fights. Most of the refs and teams are used to the euro rules and in most parts of the world the rules are made in favor of the majority. I understand if you like the NA style more and i respect your oppinion but to say Canadian hockey is hockey the way it's meant to be played is simply arrogant

Yea it was a joke. Beauty of a hit, was clean too. So was the dive called later on Schiefele or Hamilton selling the clipping call that both resulted into goals.

It evened out in the end, I dunno why anyone would be complaining.

The cut was from the visor. Yes it was a devastating hit. Same type of hit we have seen in hockey for decades. You want hits like that taken out of the game, then you have to have no contact hockey.
That was a perfect hockey hit. Nothing malicious nor did it warrant a penalty. In fact we see hits like that quite a lot. The difference is in this case there was an injury. Was Charas hit ok with you?

That's right. Forgot that.

Definitely not a charging penalty. Still a penalty by the headshot rule, though, so it is semantics, IMO.

Luza was hunched over, looking down at the puck. Try to hit someone completely cleanly in that position. It's impossible. The first thing you're taught in hockey: Keep your head up!

It wasn't called a penalty for hitting/targetting the head. It was a charging penalty. Your referees are pathetic. Especially since the official told Camara it was a clean hit before the penalty was assessed. The IIHF should change their name to the IIPF. I'm sure you know what the P stands for.

And you need to learn how not to generalize, who excactly is "you Europeans"?

It's really funny how some of the oh so tough people around here whine about pretty much everything. The soccer comments are kind of cute, I guess they come from people who never actually played real soccer and just think they are really witty if they talk badly about it based on some diving clips they saw on youtube. Those very same guys would probably cry for their mother the first time they were tackled.

The comment about "Canadians" knowing more about hockey than "Europeans" was hilarious as well. Here's a hint, just because you were born in the country were a sport was invented doesn't mean you automatically know everything about it. Those who have real knowledge usually don't feel the need to gloat about their "superior knowledge" anyway. It's those who have no clue and feed of someone elses glory who can't stop talking about how great they are.

It's the same with success. Suddenly people talk about winning as if they had anything to do with it, being all smug about "their" success, while in truth even the worst player in the tournament would probably wipe the floor with them.

There are people who know something and people who don't. None of that has much to do with nationality.

To those that are bitter about the reffing, why don't you find iihf rules, and then figure out wether the calls were good or bad - instead of just assuming the calls were bad because they woulnd't be called in the NHL. NA rules =/= IIHF rules.

Otherwise it's like football players playing rugby and whining about why they can't throw the ball forward.

Every year without fail we get the same BS from posters on both sides.
How about we scrap the World Juniors and Team Canada and Team USA can play a best of 7 series at Christmas?
