Where would you rather sign a long term contract...

Detroit or Florida

Don't just factor in the teams or players. Think of yourself as a young man who was just offered a 5-8 year contract to either if these teams. Also assume that you would be buying a home in this city.


Detroit

- hockeytown
- original six
- greats have played there
- play with Datsyuk and Zetterberg
- Detroit is a city rampant with crime
- cold winters
- right beside a very polluted lake
- not a desirable living place for a millionaire


Florida

- what's hockey?
- newer team with little history
- no legendary greats, except Bure I suppose
- no superstar talent to play beside as of now
- close to Miami, good times there
- very warm, relaxing climate
- a drive to the ocean
- beach = hot chicks in bikinis

For a millionaire, there are always desirable neighborhoods to live in. Where do you think Nik Lidstrom's mansion is? Detroit for me; O6 history and a rampant fan base, plus I like the northern, colder states.

I'd pick Florida, as a hockey player, I don't think I'd really care about a team's legacy nearly as much as the city I'm gonna live in long term

Yea that's basically why I made this, just to see if people would rather live up a fun warm lifestyle over playing for a historic successful team.

Yeah, I'd go with Florida as well. If I was a hockey player, I would sign with either a Canadian team or teams in Cali/Florida.

Detroit if I'm getting a long term deal like that I'm a good player. I know Detroit is a team that's always in the mix. I'm q hockey player I don't care about cold if I want to go to a beach and scout chicks I can do so whenever I feel like it. I want to be on a winning team with fans in the stands not in front of a half empty stadium partially filled with fans that still don't know why the whistle blows half the time.

Florida. Much better place to live. Up and coming team. And once they get better, the fans will be there. Watch Devils - Panthers Game 7. Florida has a small, but growing, fanbase.

Florida. Not only because of the life you can live and the beauty of the state, but because they have one of the brightest futures in the league with great prospects in almost all positions. Detroit is good now, but will they be in 2-4 years?

I can't imagine how crappy it is for a top athlete to play for a no hope franchise. Oh and Florida is a crappy place to live, not as bad as Detroit but still crappy. A better thread would of been Detroit vs Islanders.

Truthfully though, I'm.looking at being traded to AZ. A much better state and city than anything Michigan or Florida has to offer, IMO.

It would really come down to which team showed more interest in me. Florida is a better place to live, has a bright future, and I could get playing time. Detroit has history, a good franchise and a chance to compete for a cup now... but its an ugly city and my name would always be popping up at the deadline, with no control over where I could end up.

Have you guys ever heard of subarbs? Detroit has many great subarbs: Novi, Bloomfield Hills, Grosse Point, Birmingham, etc. Tons of great places nothing like Detroit where there are a ton of wealthy people (especially Birmingham). I can see why youd pick Florida but I dont see the big deal with playing in Detroit.

No it wouldn't, who in their right mind would choose the Islanders? The only viable poll for the Islanders is against Columbus.

I like how you mention that Detroit has a lot of crime. Miami doesn't?

Either way you are living in a nice suburb, and I bet the school systems in the nicer Detroit suburbs are > those in Miami suburbs.

I'd rather play for a good organization that has a history of developing players and will be in the same city for awhile.
