New offer sees each team afforded one compliance buyout prior to 2013-14 season. Doesn't count vs. cap but it does vs. players' share

Quoted for truth!
If this was the deal to get things back off the ground then I would say this whole lockout would be worth it because of this 1 clause.

Even though Scotty G will have a season and a half left here - assuming there is hockey in a month - best to buy him out if the cap does drop drastically for 2013-2014.

Best news out of this. This is going to be in the CBA since the PA wants it as well.

Goodbye Gomez!

Although I believe PA wants that compliance buyout $ to count in the make whole, not in the players' 50-50 share. There has to be a compromise here.

TSN just reported that the NHL moved on variance, and contract length.

IS this the makings of a deal?

Well Mackenize tweeted it, so I assume that is legitimate enough.

1 more year in term limit (from 5 to 6).

The year-to-year variance on a salary goes from 5% to 10%.

Exactly what is written in that article.

"allows each team one compliance buyout prior to the 2013-14 season. The buyout would not count against the cap, but it would against the players' share."

this would mean montreal could get rid of the gomez deal?

He isn't. He just wants the buyout $ to come from the 300 M in make whole.

The NHL wants it to come from the 50/50 share of revenues.

Sure maybe this one time, but people will use this when Eklund creates more stupid rumours come trade deadline, or free agency. I'm not sure what the extent is that he got correct, TSN said a player emailed them about the proposal, so a random player could have emailed whomever he wanted, including Eklund. Doesn't necessarily mean he has a bunch of inside sources.

Great, lets buyout Kovalchuk, Luongo & any insanely big contract teams can't afford and see that make hole go down to near 0. That logic won't pass, it's almost an insult IMHO.

I see... I don't think it makes any difference to be honest. Whether it comes from past revenues, the make hole, or future ones it's still the same hard amounts, not some percentage.

Hope the players agree, but highly doubt it.

I assume the players would push back against the last part of that "but it would against the players' share" maybe compromise to 50% goes against the players share.

At this point the sides are close enough that a deal could happen quickly if they start moving a bit.

The difference is escrow.

The buyout $ would increase the ''total'' money players receive from the owners/league, which could mean it exceeds 50% of revenues - and as a result players pay more in escrow.

So they're going to nitpick on getting more cash from a regular paycheck as opposed to getting it from escrow? They still get 50% of the revenues in this offer no? The players bought out would have gotten their salary otherwise off that 50%.

If you take that amount off the make hole it's pretty much the same, they'll get less reparation in favor of sacrificing some players' contracts, which they would have gotten with the sacrificed contracts not bought out anyway.

I still don't see a difference to make fuss about, but eh Fehr has an agenda that doesn't include playing hockey.

I bet Fehr tell the players not to accept. Goes on TV and asks the NHL to meet so he can go over all the rest of the points the players have no intention of ever accepting.
