Yakupov has played very selfishly so far this game.

He brings it in the zone then when a player gets close to him he either throws a weak wrister on goal or loses it to the poke check. Oilers better hope they get the Yakupov that knows how to pass

Russia wins 2-1. Late pp by US was pretty bad. No look pass by Barber right to the defense, and Jones tried going through the whole team to get it stripped and cleared.

Russians win but it would have been nice to get the two obvious calls that would have been powerplays earlier in the third.

Personally, I thought the Americans had some terrible decision making with the puck. Far too many turnovers and missed chances. Add that to the fact that Makarov played very well. Some real standouts on that American team though...

I thought Ghost had a very solid game.

Wish he saw more PP this game though. Don't even think he had a chance that last PP.

If the Gaudreau-Miller-Grimaldi line is still intact for the game against Canada, I'll have lost all confidence in Phil Housley as a coach. Their lack of cohesiveness and chemistry after 3 games is inexcusable. The disparity between BC Gaudreau and WJC Gaudreau is unbelievable. His confidence is non-existent, and pairing him with Grimaldi makes no sense. When Gaudreau is playing well in BC, he's dictating the play, and he has the puck on his stick. I've seen Gaudreau 5-6 times this year, and the same number last year. When he's playing with Grimaldi, Grimaldi is always holding onto the puck. Those two cannot work together, they play the exact same style and having two of that same style does not work on a line. Combine the fact the fact that Grimaldi and Miller are both playing out of position(Grimaldi is a center and Miller a winger), it's just not going to work. Miller's style is much more conducive to being a winger because he likes to forecheck and work the corners, which a center doesn't do. They may not want to make 3 scoring lines, but I see it as the only way to get Gaudreau and Grimaldi clicking.

Galchenyuk-Kuraly-Barber
Gaudreau-Trocheck-Biggs
Lucia/Vesey-Grimaldi-Miller
Pietila-Bardreau-Hartman

In this case, it gives both Gaudreau and Grimaldi two bigger guys to work with, and it will allow them to dictate the pace of play for their line. They have the puck on their stick, and have two bigger forwards that can work the corners to get them the puck, and crash and bang in front of the net.

The biggest problem for Canada is Malcolm Subban. I haven't seen much about his game that I like, big rebounds, slow reactions, he's like Leighton!

Canada usually has average goaltending at the WJC; this year they don't have a defensive core strong enough to protect their average goaltending.

The last few years the goaltending has been quite weak. This year they will be lucky to get to contend for a medal.

Just found out recently I used to play with Johnny Gaudreau. His dad taught me how to skate and I was on his team when we were real little haha.

Yep, and like CanadianFlyer said, the D core isn't good enough to cover up the mistakes

Another issue I've seen is chemistry which should come with more games played

It sucks that USA lost, but happy that Ghost did well against a tough Russian offense.

That call today on that clean hit was brutal. It looked worse than what it was. They will have to shuffle something now...I am going to guess you will see Mckinnon make a jump up.

The goaltending wasn't 'bad' today - they were a man down a lot and were not skating. They will be fine the next game.

are there any Free Agents playing D for any of these teams?

Flyers should look at trying to get a few of them cheap to see what they can do

Your whole post was really good, I edited for space.

One thing I have learned watching Grimaldi here and at UND, he will/does need a TON of coaching if he is ever going to be more than a fourth line or a healthy scratch in the NHL.

He is completely out of control on the ice at times. He reminds of the really fast guy at pickup who knows nothing about hockey, but is REALLY FAST. Obviously I exaggerate, he is very skilled, but damn he looks crazy out there.
