Advertisements on IIHF jerseys

I think it's kind of trashy. Not so much the little Nike swoosh the USA team has, per se, but the Soviets' jerseys are littered with cheesy brands.

Anyone?

You watching some replays from 1989 or something?

Soviets and capitalism?

As long as they keep them on the shoulder I'm OK with them. Those god forsaken ones on the back need to die.

The goalie had some big hoaglie sticker on the front of his mask which I thought was, like, WTF?

it's really not that bad in the WJC. Club teams over in Europe are way worse

It's too bad you get the worst part of advertisement(****** commercials every 2 minutes) along with ugly jersey ads.

It was tongue-in-cheek - a friendly poke at the country, if you will.

Sarcasm is not easily picked up by some in this awesome new Internet world we congregate in.

There's a reason - pertinent to my OP - why you don't see these advertisements in the Olympics.

Outside of maybe a Nike swoosh or Roots symbol (I believe Roots had the rights to design our American caps for Vancouver) I just think it's supposed to be more about the countries and sport.

I imagine lack of advertising would make hockey tickets more expensive and thus the game less accessible.

These ads you are talking about aren't very intrusive and you only really see them on closeups during play stoppage.

When the Swedish team was playing the US I kept thinking to myself, "There's someone named Kyocera on their team?!"

I took him in my WJC pool, but so far he's been shutout on the scoresheet!

There's like one ad, usually an exclusive deal with each national federation. Holy overreaction, Batman!

Yeah. That Megafon stripe is hardly intrusive. And in case somebody figures that round patch on Yakupov's shoulder is also an ad, it's not - but the logo of their national federation.
