What lottery? If the players have there way, there will not be a lottery, or a draft, ever.

Broken by Eklund of all people, sources say NHL gave PA new offer yesterday.

More details via @ESPN_RealLebrun:

Quote:
Pierre LeBrun
NHL offer calls for term limit on player contracts to be six years (7 if you're re-signing your own guys).
New offer sees each team afforded one compliance buyout prior to 2013-14 season. Doesn't count vs. cap but it does vs. players' share
Also the Make Whole $$$$ stays at $300 million

Amnesty clause kind of sucks for the wild unless you can use it against an already bought out player like parrish. All of our overpriced contracts, Bouchard, Cullen, and backstrom, end this season anyway. Wild don't get the benefit because we were already smart with the cap.

Unless a team can save it infinitely so we could use it on and over the hill praise and suter ten years from now, which I highly doubt.

well at least one side is making offers. same side that's been doing it all lockout, too. but boo! LOL at them while the PA side is somehow more "right" in all this because they what...are willing to sit at a table and stare? I mean, wtf is so laudable about their willingness to sit there and not make proposals?
Oh, we're willing to meet! Well bully for you! Meet and what? NHL gets blasted for saying "what's the point?" though.

My guess is that Don is underwhelmed, because of this:

They will wait until the last day to get anything done. By then the NHL will be desperate and cave even more than they have. PA isn't looking for a fair deal, they want to win the deal and until they do they won't accept it.

Please. The end-game was already set up in the summer (50-50 deal with some kind of transition and close contract loopholes). None of the proposals to this point were "final" offers.

Quote:
Chris Botta
NHL offer today is the set-up for league's rejection of PA's counterpropsal in a few days. We're still two weeks from closure.

Brian Lawton
Keep in mind there is always a final final offer... That is followed by a final offer but at some point the gains don't out pace lost time.
If you want to criticize anyone, criticize the people who made the last CBA that caused the mess we are in now.

I don't believe those two things are as directly related as you seem to. My criticism will continue to be the people who have cost us a half a season (and counting) over relatively trivial things.

Why agree on anything now when you can refuse it tomorrow?

That's not how negotiations work unfortunately. Neither side was going to come out and propose a "final" agreement from the start. They would have no wiggle room in negotiations from there.

Clearly both sides were willing to sacrifice half a season to get the best deal they could for themselves. Otherwise the NHL would have negotiated from the PA's counter-offers without "take-it-or-leave-it" and the PA would not have de-linked salaries and used so many stall tactics.

I think the only legitimate attempt to get a deal done was when Bettman still tried to get an 82 game season before Nov 2nd. He made some movement in hopes the players would take a full season's salary but they didn't bite.

Full "monster" proposal

Highlight for me:

Quote:
Implementation of a weighted Draft Lottery in which all non-Playoff teams compete for opportunity to choose first overall in the annual Draft.
Not sure exactly what this means, but could this be the proposal to have most points earned since playoff elimination?

It is probably going to be how the NBA does their lottery. Where you can move all the way to the top instead of just up 4 spots. With the not so good teams having the best chance still.

Sounds good to me. I have absolutely no problem with anything that was listed. If this isn't agreed to (or some variation very, very close to it), I really don't have much hope for the league anymore.

What if they agree to more or less that proposal in two weeks?

Exactly...but I'm about 99.9% sure we'll get a hockey season in two weeks.

the thing that pisses me off about this lockout is that for the longest time both sides played ******** trying to parade around that they were working their ***** off to get a deal. both PA and NHL just wasted time, watching the clock tick down down down. Season opener came and went, first week, 2nd week, etc. Eventually the WC got the axe. However at some point in this whole mess NHL actually got somewhat serious and wanted to get a deal done, but PA decided that was too good and they needed to stall.

My support for the PA is non-existent, i'm sorry but all the players (not the prospects in houston go Brodin) can go **** themselves, each and every one of them can go **** a dog for all i care.
