HF Boards' Healthy Body Transformation Thread - Part 5
Since I've never added weights beside 10lbs(each hand,) before to my squats, I felt like I needed to do more so I did 40lbs(each hand,) and it felt like I was trying to get out of quick sand. . I did 3 sets of 9. I think I'm going to aim for 4 sets of 8/9 before I move up 20lbs. I think the machine makes it a lot easier for you, but you can go real heavy.
When do you guys do deadlifts? On your back days or on your leg days? I do it for legs personally... Did a 3 sets last night and I know I'm not doing it 100% correct because my left leg has this pinching/twitching feeling when I get up.

Does the pinching also happen in your lower back?
Because if its radiating into your leg then you could have a problem with your sciatica.

I don't think so, at least I didn't feel it there. I only felt it on my left leg. Is that like a medical condition (I'm googling it myself, but would be cool if you broke it down for me here) ?
I'm not the one using a leg press machine whose sole purpose is to show off how many plates you can put on it. For the most part they're for wimps who aren't man enough to squat.
I don't care that I use jellydick weights when I'm squatting and deadlifting. I suck at them but I don't cheat on them.
So you don't incorporate leg press into squat day?

Nah it's not a huge deal. If it's not in your back and radiating to your leg then it's most likely not a sciatica issue.
Usually things like you're describing come from weak or inactive glutes. With things like that I would keep the weight at a moderate level, because if the glutes are in fact inactive then you can risk injury when moving to heavier weights.
If you feel pain, do not push through it. Pain is your body's way of telling you something is wrong. Find yourself a good chiropractor and they should be able to clear up what is going on. Also try and google some ways of stretching your Glute max, as well as the glute medius.
Typical stretches for that are things like a piriformis muscle stretch which you can get a rough outline of it in these pics:
Foam rolling is also a very effective way of breaking up scar tissue in these areas and opening them up to becoming more active.
Try and do those every few days and if it doesn't clear up the leg tingling then I strongly advise you find a chiro. Save yourself years of pain man.
Because it doesn't do much, it can be dangerous and most guys use it to compensate for their small you know whats because they can throw a dozen plates on it while thinking it means something.

It allows you to continue training legs even if your lower back is knackered, works for me given I put deadlifts into my leg day.

Leg day.
Simple solution. Squat then deadlift.
Every big lift can be dangerous. You do a single leg leg press and you would have to try really hard to **** your back.
I don't really care what my calves look like. Maybe you care about what they do but they don't matter to me. I'm training to be stronger, not trying to have sexy calves.

Part 1 of 3:
The full leg day is:
Jefferson squats
Kickbacks
SLDL
Walking lunges
Calf raises
Standing calf raises
Leg curls
Standing leg curls
Leg extensions
Squats
If you think anyone on here should be using the program of a geared competitive bodybuilder, you're nuts.
Bodybuilding is lame these days anyways. There's some wrong with guys who want shave their body, turn their skin orange, get greased up and prance around on a stage in a banana hammock.
