EDIT: Perry, Gonchar for PIT cup run.

ORIGINAL:

Corey Perry

Tyler Kennedy
Beau Bennett
1st Round Pick
2nd Round Pick (2014)

Using the Hossa trade as a guide. While the Penguins may not have the offensive prospect depth to make a toploaded offer, I think that assuming the Ducks are out of the hunt and feel that Perry's gone anyway, this would be a good deal for them going forwards.

EDIT:

Corey Perry

Simon Despres
Dustin Jeffrey
2013 1st
2014 2nd
2014 5th

Sergei Gonchar
2013 3rd

Tyler Kennedy

Kennedy isn't really worth including in a trade, at least for a player like Perry.

Disagreed, I think Kennedy is really underrated. If you use his scoring rate from last year he's gotten 45 points for the past two years, not playing with Malkin or Crosby. On last year's Ducks that makes him the 4th highest scoring player on the roster (3rd if we take out Perry). And on Anaheim he would be able to play his natural position, centre.

Removing Christensen and Dupuis from the Hossa trade, we get:

Armstrong = Kennedy + 2nd
Bennett = Esposito
1st = 1st

The Pens organization is very high on Bennett. He will not be dealt.

I am too. I'm a Penguins fan, and I think that he could be a future winger for Crosby. I'd rather have Perry fill that role though. I think that if push comes to shove he could be dealable.

Isn't Perry going to be a UFA by June?

I would beat that offer from a Canucks POV.

Ducks fans will want more I bet, probably a guy like Despres over Bennett and a better winger then Kennedy, maybe Dupuis.

If I was offered this:

Corey Perry

Pascal Dupuis
Simon Despres
2013 1st
2013 2nd

I would probably take it just because Perry and Crosby would be sensational. PIT will have to overpay, I don't see Anaheim giving Perry away for cheap unless they come to a complete stall in negotiations.

Anaheim would want more than that for a player like Perry. May not be able to get it however

I would happily do this, except I wouldn't want Dupuis in there. A player like Dupuis has no value for the Ducks. Even a project like Jeffrey would be more at home in that deal, and I'd be wiling to throw in another draft pick to cover it.

There isn't going to be a season. Perry will get to choose his team and if he leaves Anaheim, they get nothing. Same with Getzlaf. The smart move would have been to sign or trade these guys before the lockout. They did neither. Most likely, they will lose one for nothing.

From the Pens side I'd do this one. Despres is more expendable to them than Bennett, since Bennett is their best forward prospect in a weak group. Perry would replace Dupuis anyways so I'd be okay with losing him. I'd want a D-man coming back from Anaheim too, even if it's a 7th defencemen with little to no value, just someone to play a handful of games each year until the young guys are up there.

I'm pretty sure the Cap amnesty for the season doesn't allow you to add even more over the Cap at the deadline.

The Penguins have almost 10 million in cap space. We cleared out expecting the jackpot this summer.

Assuming Perry wants Parise money (7.3) and next year's cap is 60 million, Martin is clearable and will hopefully be replaceable with one of our prospects.

I think the Pens will simply wait until the off season and give up nothing. They have the cap space, and I'm sure Shero isn't willing to get burned again like he did in the Hossa deal for another impending UFA. They try to get him in the off season. If he goes elsewhere, oh well, just business as usual.

I don't see Shero giving up a 1st round pick here. Maybe as a conditional pick if Perry were to re-sign

Murray would ask for way more and then not trade Perry then he leaves and we get nothing for him. Then he will blame it on being a small market team and that the Ducks can't overpay players like that. BLAH BLAH BLAH.

With what? I'm curious.

In order to beat it, you're looking at something like...

Jensen
Raymond
1st
2nd

And that would likely only beat it by the slimest of margins.

Good proposal. I, as a Pens fan probably would accept it. If Ducks want Despres instead of Bennett, I would glaaaaadly give them Despres. Hell, I would even give them 2 Despres´ over Bennett if we have them... Pens are extremely high on Beau Bennett and he is a key prospect for Pittsburgh (he is very good and while we are loaded on defense, we don´t have other solid F-prospects). But I would still do that OP, even with Bennett included, cause Perry is too good. Kennedy would be a good addition for the Ducks as well, he´s not a throw in.

I'd do it. Losing Bennett hurts but he's injured way too much.

If you really think that the Penguins consider the Hossa trade "getting burned" then you're crazy. The Hossa trade was genius, and that was done when we had a worse team than now. Considering what happened to the players we traded away, I'd do that trade just for Dupuis in retrospect.

Just for context:

If Kennedy were traded

Kunitz - Malkin - Neal
Dupuis - Crosby - Perry
Tangradi - Sutter - Cooke
Jeffrey - Adams - Vitale

Orpik - Letang
Martin - Niskanen
Despres - Engelland

Fleury
Vokoun

If Despres were

Kunitz - Malkin - Neal
Dupuis - Crosby - Perry
Kennedy - Sutter - Cooke
Tangradi - Adams - Jeffrey

Orpik - Letang
Martin - Niskanen
Bortuzzo/Morrow? - Engelland

Fleury
Vokoun

Both lineups are extremely strong. If Pittsburgh can't get Perry in the offseason, they can still go after a player like Ryane Clowe and throw 4-5 million at him.

We can't afford to move Gonchar, shallow on d as is. Also I don't want pignose.

Engelland and a pick then? Tough and decent 3rd pairing defenceman at a low price.

And fine if you don't want Kennedy, we're happy to keep a 45 point scorer with championship experience on our 3rd line.
