Despres was really OK in this first period, but he needs more support from his teammates at least on some occasions. WBS had chances though, but Holtby is obviously too good for this league. That gifted goal by Strait (who is awful so far) gonna matter in game like this and against goalie like that.
Bad period by Despres this time, sluggish passes, bad on PP and also lost the balance twice with the puck, leading to bad turnovers... At least Dumoulin was very good, he also almost scored on a great individual play. WBS is a better team, but Holtby is probably going to win it all by himself.
ugh of course my first time I can go watch the wbs pens morrow and bennett are out
This team is terrible. Zatkoff is very good the brutal turnover by strait he stopped a point blank with a terrific save, but no way can you control that rebound and no D was coming to help so the rebound was put in.
Bortuzzo and Strait utterly failed to impress bad decisions stood out in a bad way at times, I can't see how they crack the big pens line up unless there are injuries.
Despres really was borderline bad in this game, the empty net goal was almost completely on him, tried to hold the puck at the blue line, failed. Then he totally didn't hustle AT ALL coming back and a pretty good chance they way the play developed that if he had could have stopped that goal. In general he was ok at times, never really good/great and a few.
For a team that is supposedly STACKED on defense it was kinda meh imo. I came away more impressed with Samuelsson then any of the other D. Dumolin did look decent as well, I never noticed him in a bad way and his decisions seemed sound through the game.
My only positive I really took from this game was that I felt that Tangradi looked better then when I watched him last year. His decisions were better, his skating is noticeably better.
Yes, Tangradi was the best Pensī forward out there. But, there is not a big accomplishment considering how poor the others were. Samuelsson was very good as was Dumoulin. Despres had a decent first period but he was just terrible since then. Seemed like he lacks some hockey sense. Heīs useless on PP and still was on 1st unit.
Strait was horrible and Bortuzzo was average at best. They can be useful as a shutdown pair, but this time Hershey (worst team in the league, if not Holtby) didnīt have offense at all, so the Pens had to create something. Bort and Strait just canīt create a lot of things which is expected but then we have seen that horrific turnover by Strait.. I could stand Bortuzzo as a 7th D-man for the Big Pens but I hope youngsters could crack the lineup before him. I see no space for Strait in our organization, heīs just expendable at this point. Even guy like Samuelsson has more value than Strait, IMO heīs regularly very solid for the Baby Pens so far this season.
Watched the game, yes, horrible give away by Strait but this team can't score and that's what lost the game. Holtby can be beat but we just don't have the scorers this season. Smith and Ferriero looked horrible. Our PP is dead in the water. Those of you that think Morrow is the answer haven't been watching him play. He's made turn overs like Straits every game but if the don't go in the net they go unoticed, esp since he's a rookie. This is a good team but not a great team. They aren't going to blow other teams away. They have to win games with a very low margin of error. Unfortunetly for Strait, his was the difference last night.
WBS lost to Hershey again last night. Morrow, in the line up in place of Samuellson, got an assist on the lone PP goal but was dreadful on defense. Bortuzzo & Strait were outstanding last night on defense but the they just don't provide much in the way of offense. They out shot Hershey in both games but just can't finish.
They desperatly need Bennett back. But even then it would be nice to have at least 1 more player who can score.
People on here think Morrow makes the PP run but it's actually Bennett. He reminds me a lot of Joe Thorten when he sets up behind the net and dishes the puck. It's no coincidence that Tangradi hasn't done $hit since Bennett has been out.
