Phew, had a little brain lag: "Andrei Vasilevski - an unrestricted free agent in 2013???"

Nice avatar, Days!

I was looking through the guide to set the Swiss and Russia games to record and I noticed that only Group B games were being televised here. Not a single game from Group A was on the list. Did I just completely miss them or will I have to stream them?

You probably didn't miss them.

NHL.com is streaming some amount of the games, to what extent, I don't know.

NHL Net is too busy playing a Miracle on Ice show to have many games not involving 'murica.

Kucherov looked pretty good today in Russia's 3-2 OT win. Scored a goal via a nice give and go with Grigorenko and almost scored a great goal on an individual effort in OT. Made some sharp passes, but also didn't see an open man a couple times. Puck protection needs some work, but it looked like just a lack of strength, so not a difficult problem to fix.
Nesterov played a solid, quiet game. Had the primary assist on the OT game winning goal, was +2 for the game.
Vasilevski played a strong game. He did let the tying goal trickle through his legs with 30 sec to go in the 3rd, but he was very sharp for most of the game.
Drouin had a goal and an assist in Canada's 9-3 romp over Germany. He still looks like the most talented player in the draft to my eyes. All-Star hands and vision. Would be nice if he was a bit larger though.
Team Sweden looked very well coached and well organized. They have several draft eligible players on their team, but I want to see a few more of their games, also Team Finland, before forming an opinion.

Tanner Richard tops WJC 3-Stars on Day 2
http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/jrh...171645892.html

Quote:
Switzerland spotted Latvia the first goal before rolling to a 7-2 win in Group A, so its player of the game Richard gets the honour for his three-assist effort. The Tampa Bay Lightning third-rounder has bright future as a two-way centre, which he showed to full effect by continuing the playmaking ways that have made him a top assist man for the OHL's Guelph Storm. Richard, 19, who spoke before the tournament of Switzerland's need to put away teams it can beat, gave his club its first lead by feeding Mike Künzle for a power-play goal in the opening period.

Some of my thoughts from the Russia-USA game:

Sergeev played well. Biggest negative for him was his play along the boards. He was losing battles behind the net a lot. He needs to get stronger. But he played pretty similar to how he did in the summer Russia Canada Challenge. He didn't play as much, but when he did He kept to making the simple play and was unnoticeable at times which was a good thing.

Nesterov on the other hand was very noticeable. He played a great game. He played really steady against the Slovaks but the Slovaks aren't the same team as the Americans, but he proved to be just as great. He was a rock and his assist to Yarullin for the 1st Russian goal was a lot like the one he had against the Slovaks. I love the progression he's made. You can tell the time he's had in the enhanced KHL has really helped him because it looked like everything has slowed down for him, where in past games he might get caught running around a bit or trying to force a play. He was quite strong on the walls and when he had to made some nice rushes/passes to start the breakout. Overall he played great, and I'm really happy.

For Kucherov there's a mix of good and bad. In the 1st period he was invisible. He stuck to playing on the perimeter and it looked like he was waiting for the game to come to him. He wasn't getting the space he was against the Slovaks and he looked timid while the Americans brought their physical game. He upped his battle level in the 2nd and from there on he got better throughout the game. He started going to the net and in the corners, and got involved. He had a penalty that cost the Russians their only goal, but I didn't mind it. In the words of Boucher, it was an "error of commission." so at least he was going hard and trying to make something happen. Same with in the 3rd when he tangled with Trouba on something that could've been called. I'd rather him challenge players than disappear like he did in the first 20 minutes. His defensive play has improved since the last wjc. He backchecked and his coverage was better. Still needs work in this area, but it's improved so that's promising. His conditioning is better than last year too where some reported he looked tired near the end of games. His best 2 scoring chances happened near the end of the 3rd where he almost clinched the win if not for a great saves by Gibson. He was also one of the few Russians who was ok sharing the puck. He looked like he was looking for his bud Grigorenko most times.

It will be interesting to see what happens when they face the Canadians. Makarov played incredible, so who knows who will start that game. And for Kucherov he had a hard time adapting to the tenacity and physicality of the Americans, and the Canadians will be much tougher. But this might be a game where all the Russians get themselves up a level because of the rivalry. That should be the biggest game on New Years before the elimination games.

In addition to the TheDaysOf 04 great analysis, I have a few thoughts on Tanner Richard:

He is not as quick as I had expected but he is a good skater who can compete against others decently. Skating needs some refinement, though. He could do almost anything with the puck and his vision along with great passing ability make me believe he'll surprise a lot of people. I'm not saying he'll become a 1st line superstar but he has got all the tools to turn into a solid 30-40+ point 2nd/3rd line tweener. If his offensive part of the game doesn't translate into the pro level, he can still be a gritty, face-off specialist. Really like what I've seen so far from him.

Kucherov biggest problem for me is physical play, he really shies away from plays, if he can improve this, he has everything to be an all-star someday.

Richard looked good for the swiss
