The journey to UFA (i.e. Ufa, Russia)

Quite curious about this: as we all know, 4 contending WJC teams were all involved in a pre-WJC tournament in the outskirts of Helsinki, Finland - they all played 2 games in 3 days there (Thu-Sat).

What exactly happened after the Saturday's games were over? Every team + their following crew, also a number of journalists and scouts now had to travel from Helsinki to Ufa - ASAP. Naturally, there are regular flights via Moscow or St Petersburg, but the group of people travelling from Helsinki to Ufa must have been several hundreds of passengers... (There definitely does not exist a regular direct flight route from Helsinki to Ufa - regular flights via Moscow would have been extremely time-wasting and complicated to book.)

So what did the teams actually do? Was there any co-operation in chartering a couple of airplanes together?

I read somewhere that the teams that were in Helsinki flew together, at least two of 'em. Can't find the article.

Pretty intriguing this, in that case. This has to be a 6 hour flight or something in that style... All those teams must have really bonded then by the time they land in UFA...

Or people might have been annoying on the flight and just created more hatred/animosity

They said on the Finnish tv that it was only a 3-hour flight from Helsinki.

Let's hope all the kids were thoroughly screened for anything that could be used as a weapon.

Let me know if the swedes acted somehow regarding that Boone Jenner incident - and vice versa,

- anyway it would be just wonderful to see "the highlights" who did what on that flight to Ufa

Yeah here's a source for that: http://www.mtv3.fi/urheilu/jaakiekko...maajoukkueesta

It was a charter flight for the four teams.. Joel Armia said "hopefully a war doesn't break out on the plane"

Well, that video-clip seems to be geo-blocked, only Finnish IP-addresses probably.

Pun intended was re: UFA.

But on a more serious note:
Ufa (Russian: Уфа; IPA: [ʊˈfa]; Bashkir: Өфө, Öfö) is the capital city of the Republic of Bashkortostan

That's where these games will be at... Bashkiria/Bashkortostan

Actually, That brings up an interesting question that I've wondered about for a long time. The US is divided up into fifty states, and Canada into ten provinces with the left over parts that nobody wanted split into three territories. In what way is the massive land mass that is Russia divided up?

It's divided into 83 federal subjects with differing degrees of autonomy.

...and a partridge in a pear tree?

Damn, that was a little more complicated than I was expecting it to be, but I guess that's why it doesn't get mentioned much, if ever.

Thanks for the answer guys!

What about the accomodations? I'm pretty sure Ufa doesn't have a lot of classy hotels, suitable and near the arenas - which teams are staying together at the same hotel ?

- imho details like this, how the teams travel and are accomodated are really important, especially regarding teenage guys - not a lot of attention though on this in the media...
