you won't get him for that package, but Stastny would be a perfect fit for us. He was at his best with Q as his coach and would fill a need.

Stalberg began his season playing for Frolunda in the SEL. He played 11 games and scored 7 goals and 5 assists for 12 points - not bad in a league that currently has only 3 players averaging more than one point per game.

Then Stalberg left Sweden and went to Russia to play for Atlant Moscow (Oblast) in the KHL. He has played 12 games and has scored 3 goals and 5 assists for 8 points.

But here's the intriguing thing - unlike his games in the SEL and his first 9 games in the KHL where he played wing, the last three games he has played center AND he has 3 goals and 2 assists in those 3 games. Obviously 3 games isn't enough of a sample to make a judgement - but it's intriguing. Could Stalberg have gone to the KHL for an opportunity to play center? Could he be giving Stan and Q something to think about? He certainly has the size and speed to match up with the big NHL centers.

If (<- big if) Stalberg can play center, a line of Sharp-Stalberg-Kane could be a very potent line. It would allow Kane to go back to his natural RW position and his playmaking would more than make up for what Stalberg lacks in that category. A Sharp-Stalberg-Kane line would surely be elite in terms of speed too.

So just to get the juices going again, how about this lineup:

Saad-Toews-Hossa
Sharp-Stalberg-Kane
Bickell-Bolland-Shaw
Carcillo-Kruger-Mayers/Frolik

Hmmmm - thanks for posting!

I'm interested to see a longer stint at centre. Also, I'm curious to see faceoff percentage and how he's been defensively beyond the +/- stat category.

It appears a lot of current Hawks have taken note that a centre position is potential up for grabs; Saad stepped up and asked play, J. Hayes was tested there too. It's definitely an area of need if the roster stays as is.

Stalberg isn't a NHL center. Period.

The lack of a 2nd line center hasn't been a problem for the Hawks this season.

Stan.

You're probably right - but we don't really know for sure until it's tried and failed.

What we do know through experience is Kane is not an NHL center - at least not for 82 games a year where his size would eventually catch up with him. We also know that Kruger is a center but not a top-6 talent. Sharp for whatever reason is no longer an option at 2C. Pirri seems to have taken a step backward this year in terms of scoring in the AHL and offense is his strong suit so I wouldn't count on Pirri playing 2C for the Hawks. Any of the wing-to-center experiments that have been tried in Rockford are pretty unlikely to work in the NHL.

So ... we're right back to where we've been the last 2 seasons - nobody to play 2C. Why not give Stalberg a change if he shows something in training camp and exhibition games (if there are any).

Bumping a 6 month old thread pretty much is never a good idea.
