Schubert made it because he had almost everything you need. If Schubert had good hockey sense, which is a rather important ability to have, he would have turned into a very good NHL-player. Without it he was merely a journeyman. He had the size and physicality, was fast and mobile for his size, had an extremely hard shot though slight problems with his accuracy.

Mebus would have a really long way to go to even match Schubert, much less have a chance at the NHL.

True. Not to mention Schubert's durability. Because of his size, physicality and speed he could play a bottom 6 role up front or on defense. Schubert is a better player than he gets credit for. I think he could hold down a job as a bottom pairing guy on a few teams in the NHL.

Also it seemed like his versatility hurt him as much as it helped him. If I remember correctly he played a lot of games as a forward, and switched his position several times over the course of his NHL career. I think that in the long run he would have been better of if he had been able to stick to one position either defenseman or forward.

These two (Draisaitl and Kahun) have played together so well in German Juniors, that I don't want to see them split up.

Of course a lot could change if Rieder doesn't get healthy in time.
I read Rieder is prepairing for WC.
So i would switch Draisaitl and Kahun because both can create chances.
Thats something we dont have to much.
Draisaitl would be my 1C with Rieder.Kahun would C the 2nd Line.

Germany has finalized their roster. 12 F 8 D 3 G
http://www.deb-online.de/index.php/d...isen-2137.html

The final cuts from the preliminary roster where...
D-Winkler(93)
D-Bender(95)
D-Moser(95)

F-Boiarchinov(93)
F-Fischbuch(93)
F-Koslowski(94)

I like the looks of this team and the roster is close to what I predicted for once!

Haase(93)- Keller(93)
Kronthaler(93)- Faber(93)
Mebus(93)- Mierandres(93)
Bar(93)- Ketterer(93)

These are not actual lines... just an idea of the order

Reider(93)- Draisaitl(95)- Pföderl(93)
Pauli (93)- Uvira(93)- Kahun(95)
Latta(93)- Kretschmann(93)- Tiffels(95)
Ackermann(93)-Reimer(93)-Sekesi(93)

I think Fischbuch is a better player than Sekesi, but the coaches surely wanted some more grit, so I am ok with that.
The only thing I am not happy is the cutting of Bender. We have so much size on defense that I don't think it would have hurt to have one more guy who can actually skate well and move the puck. But it's not like the players thex chose are horrible, but I like Bender's game a lot and think the team would have been better with him.

I like how Team-Manager Michael Pfuhl points out that this is a very young team with some '95 players, when in fact this team is not really that young.

19 players '93
1 player '94
3 players '95

Big guy, very good at protecting the puck, good hands, great vision, decent finish.
Problem is his skating.

That could limit his impact on the big ice surface, but I will enjoy watching how he does! I am torn for the Canada game. Seeing as I think a loss to Germany could kill Canada and Germany really only needs to beat Slovakia!
On another note... for those more in the know, any word on lines yet and is there a stream for the exhibition game tomorrow?

I believe he fractured his foot a few weeks ago, but he's able to play in the WJC.

Anyone have a list of the 1993 German roster that competed in Sweden? I recall Canada squeaking by them New Years Day but cannot remember if Sturm was on that team.

I could not find the roster on the net.

Not bad - I recall Seliger, Ludemann and Serikow. Seliger was quite good.

Thanks

Germany's looked pretty good in this tournament. I don't think Latvia will have what it takes to stay in the top division this year. Germany should stay up.

Btw, love Draisaitl and Kahun. Both are looking like very good players. Tiffels is an intriguing playmaker as well.
