Pretty entertaining first period; lots of hitting and a goal from Florek.

These teams don't play each other often, but there's a sense of hatred tonight between the teams.

Spooner is still out...

Robins vs. Fitzgerald...even at first, but Robins takes over at the end and gets the win. Nice bout.

MacDermid scores after he and Hansen do great work on a 2 on 1. MacD's line is 3g 2a on the year.

Schenn scores to make it 2-1, but Caron answers on a nice wrister. 3-1 midway thru the second.

Still 3-1 midway thru the third; nice to see Providence getting nasty in the third by throwing their bodies around a bit. There have been a few questionable hits tonight by both teams.

Providence can't stay out of the box and the Phantoms make it 3-2 with 9:07 remaining.

Bourque buries the EN and seals the deal, 4-2 Bruins.

I suspect Cross is heading for AHL/NHL journeyman status at best.

Disagree. Looks like a solid stay at home defenseman to me. Smart, conservative and strong on his skates. He is never going to light up the scoreboard, but he knows that, and he won't make rash decisions in attempts to do so.

Not a pretty player but a dependable one.

So we should expect at most a Boychuk who plays a little more conservative when it comes to putting himself out there to lay on hits?

If you want to make comparisons, I'd say Cross is in the Boychuk sort of mold, though he doesn't have Boychuk's howitzer of a slapper.

I know Julien likes his defensemen to gamble and pinch when they see the opportunity, so it's going to be interesting to see if Cross can add that dimension to his game. He's certainly smart enough to learn, but, like most young defensemen, it'll take a while (Boychuk spent years in the minors), and there will undoubtedly be "bust" cries along the way.

He's a smoother skater, I don't see why he can't develop into a Seidenberg like player with the right guidance, patience, and time. He has the will and the head to do what it takes

The P-Bruins are playing in Worcester tonight. 2-2 after two periods. Bourque scored in the first period (from Cunningham and Cross) and Florek in the second (from Cunningham). Bruins leading in shots 25-18. Hutch in goal.

Sharks score with less than five minutes left. Bruins fall 3-2.
