"I read the article from Globe&Mail. I am really angry for it being so negative and it was having lies / false-information. My time in Oulu was really good, and the people close to me know it. I want to make clear, that I only left to be with my family. The whole organisation treated me very well and I feel sad, that people now think that I wasn't happy and thankful when I was part of the organisation.
I was very lucky, when I got to play in so great team, that welcomed me so warmly and treated me very well. All the coaches, GM, fans in Oulu very very nice for me and made my time unforgottable. I had great team-mates who even became my good friends. Im thankful for all of this and I wish the best for the organisation in future.
What an unprofessional piece of bull that article by Globe&Mail. And either Turris is a little girl or the article twisted everything he said.
Many horror stories have been shed about the operation of the Continental Hockey League over in Russia in particular, but apparently the SM-Liiga isn’t the most comfortable or professionally run league either when compared to NHL standards.
The media operation isn’t any more comfortable.
After his first game, Turris was taken upstairs to a podium in front of 100 sponsors in an audience looking at him not understanding a word.
“It’s so awkward. They don’t understand anything that you’re saying, staring at you confused,” he said. “I feel like a complete idiot, trying to use hand signals to help communicate.”
“The travel here is horrendous. It’s worse than junior,” he said. “We’ll fly into Helsinki then hop in a bus for four to six hours, meanwhile, we’ll make three stops on a six-hour bus trip for no reason. It’s awful.”
Maybe try the AHL, I've heard the bus rides from Abbotsford to St. John are very short and exhilirating
That is ridiculous anyhow.. The reporters do understand / speak English, that's really stupid to say that 100 reporters were there and no one speak English, absolutely ridiculous. Maybe 1 out of 100 doesn't speak English in Finland, maybe oldest grannies and grand pa's wont, but I believe that they ain't being reporters. Young people should be able to understand and talk to you without greater issues.
And why would they fly to helsinki and then have 6h bus ride to some other city, I think every SM-Liiga town has airfield where pretty big planes can land.. Some even have International Airports (at least KalPa, Ilves, Tappara, HIFK, Jokerit, Blues, TPS, Kärpät have international airports close to the arena, maybe some other too).
Some how I dont believe Turris would've said that, just because that's not true. I believe that they might be eating at ABC thought. That's stupid how ever, many times I've seen Suomi-Sarja level teams bus parked close to the town's best hotel/restaurant. If they eat like that, why wouldn't SM-Liiga teams.
And Kyle Turris didin't even do anything remarkable, he aint even that much better than regullar SM-Liiga jyrä. There's no reason for players of that level to be arrogant either.
How do Jokerit fans rate Moses in comparison to Stapleton and Metro?
IMO Moses is already in his first year in the same level where Stapleton was in his last year in Jokerit. Moses is physically more ready than Stapleton was in his first year. Metro was centre and older: complete as a player when he played here. So I would left him out from the comparison. Moses can still improve... he is not yet in his own "complete" form as a player.
All three are/were fan favourites...Metro in legendary status almost.
I just read that TPS fans consider Nummelin a traitor now that he's joined Lukko instead of TPS because of money??
It's not just because he's joining a different team, it's because of all those comments he made during his time with TPS this autumn ("My heart is at TPS" "After joining this team I finaly realized what I want from hockey" etc.) + the ceremony where he received the most sacred retired jersey of TPS, #3 of Timo Nummelin, a TPS legend (not only in ice-hockey).
Besides, there's so much different information about salary numbers that it's hard to say if TPS really did offer underpayment, or was "Petu" just after the money. The general conseus seems to be that the TPS offer was around 180 000k + bonuses making it around 200 000-250 000 a year. If this is correct, then I'd say the offer by Lukko has to be in the 300 000-350 000 range, which is not a problem for a sugardaddy team like them, but sure is a risky investment on a 40 year old defensman.
However, no contracts have been signed yet, so we have to wait to see how things develope.
Kasper Kapanens first game in SM-Liiga has been impressive! No points, but he really seems to be on the level that is needed for the league. He aint just hanging there, he is making very good plays and passes and he's so fast he reminds me of Prime Sami kinda.
This is good, hope he keeps up and gets better. He could play in U20 team
Once again a pathetic show from Ässät against an injured and/or "weak" team. This time a 3-1 loss against Pelicans, who came to the game after just losing two of their top scorers and a defenceman. Ässät now tied for the worst team at home at the moment.
So many problems everywhere except goaltending and I hope they are doing something to fix it.
Edit. Something could be a new head coach for example. Kivi clearly has not had the team in his hands this season and has made a bunch of strange decisions on which players to play at different situations.
So, did HIFK lose this on purpose so that the management would fire The Soup? It´s not impossible, hopefully the players have grown tired of the coach and wants him fired. Otherwise, just a terrible game, luckily I wasnt able to go to the game...
