That could most likely be attributed to his style of penalty killing and the larger ice. He is very aggressive and attacks the point, while blocking the passing lane. Larger ice means more room for the players. Galchenyuk was caught running around between the man on the point and the man along the boards above the circle. I think he should be given another chance on the penalty kill, but his style, at least in my opinion, is not very effective on the larger ice.
That's a fantastatic point, That. I hadn't actually stopped to think about the effect of the larger ice being a factor. You're absolutely bang on though when you describe they type of defensive coverage Galchenyuk offers on the PP. He's very good with covering angles and passing lanes and he patiently itches himself closer and closer to the puck carrier before he goes in for the kill and attempts a takeaway.

Not impressed by Housley's use of Galchenyuk so far. The guy is a questionable coach.

Its annoying. I hope he is trying to keep AG fresh for the medal rounds. In a tournament anything can happen in single elimination. Have to get there first though.

Phil Housley is a high school coach. Go figure. They should have recruited Tortorella for the World Jrs and had Housley as assistant in case the lock out ended. On another note, does it make me a bad Canadian if I cheer for Galchenyuk's team tonight?

No. Cheer for the score to be high, because you know with Subban in nets, the states are guaranteed 3 goals... At least.

Tonight he makes a 70 save shutout to prove me wrong.

Sorry, that excuse doesn't work. They weren't ready to play that game, they rarely played the body, and looked lost. Looked more like piss poor coaching and preparation.

A poster on the WJC board said it best - Housley is either a stubborn coach or an oblivious one.

I'm gonna be torn evry time Galchenyuk has the puck. I could never cheer for the U.S. to beat Canada but I want to see him do well.

I hope Canada starts Binnington as I will be less torn to see him stone Galchenyuk than Subban and all of his Bruin followers. The best case scenario however is to see Subban get torn up by Galchenyuk and pulled for Binnington who then leads Canada to victory....

Well, for me its simple, I cheer for USA when Gally is on the ice, and for Canada when he is not! And if Gally play only 12min like the 2 previous game i will have a lot of chance to cheer for Canada.

Good game all

International ice doesn't help him but to be fair, he was at the end of shift when he got that puck.

I don't mind if Gally gets shutout tonight due to being played like a 3rd liner if it means the coach realizes their 1st line isn't as good as they think it is...

He isnt forcing the play or if he does he lets easy openings to clear the zone imo.

Nice to see Gally guiding Kuraly on the PP, pointing to the D for him to make a pass to.

7 shifts, 6:25 TOI in the first for Galchenyuk.
5:13 ES
1:12 PP

The US isn't very good. They cannot make more than 2 consecutive passes without turning it over.

I'm going to sound like a homer, but Galchenyuk needs to carry the puck more. I'm starting to wonder if Housley even knows who he is. It's embarassing watching guys like Gaudreau, Barber and Kuraly "carrying" the play when you have Galchenyuk sitting on the wing doing nothing.

The 7 seconds when he had the puck on his stick with the powerplay led to damn near one of the best chances for the U.S. in the entire period.
