Facing last years Calder Cup champion will be a good test to see if this season so far has just been a FLUKE or if the Crunch are real contenders.

interesting words from the Crunch after the game

Quote:
“Warmups was different. You’re skating around, you’re like, these jerseys look familiar,’’ said Barberio, the AHL’s defenseman of the year for Norfolk last season.

“I didn’t like it,’’ said Syracuse coach Jon Cooper, the league’s coach of the year for the Admirals in 2011-12. “It was weird. You looked at the players’ numbers, you kept thinking about your players from last year. Standing there at the anthem, a lot of different emotions were going through my head. But a couple of shifts into the game, I didn’t even blink.’’
Quote:
“Obviously, you have a personal vendetta,’’ Johnson said. “You want to play good against them. That was our team last year.’’

Kokkoek scored a goal but was -1 in a 5-2 win over Kingston.

Reportedly he's asked to be traded from Petes, we'll see how that turns out. Some other players have too. GM got fired, coach too I think.

Also, TB GM Yzerman was at Fridays Crunch game, BriseBois thinks he will be there tonight too
http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/lightn...red-collarbone
Quote:
"He showed last year that he could hold his own in the NHL, so we have no doubt he could," Lightning assistant general manager Julien BriseBois said Saturday. "But right now he's hurt and the focus is getting him back healthy as quickly as possible."

Brown was injured by a hit during the first period of a 4-2 victory over Norfolk. Syracuse coach Jon Cooper said Brown will be out six to eight weeks.

Cooper also relayed how the injury happened:

"Basically, we were on a power play and we won the draw, went to him and he was skating in the zone. The guy (Norfolk defenseman Mat Clark) engaged on him so he was kind of leaning on J.T., and J.T. was taking the puck behind the net and the guy just rode him awkwardly into the corner. J.T. kind of took an arm off his stick to kind of ward him off and, basically, they went into the boards. The guy put him into the boards hard, but I can't sit here and say it was a dirty play. It happens and it's too bad."
Quote:
It's hard for first-year players coming into that league," BriseBois said of the AHL. "It's really a good league and even better this year," because of the NHL lockout. "And on a team that's pretty deep, and where everyone is fighting for ice time, he was able to carve out a niche for himself and pick up some points, so he's been pretty good. He's just progressing really well for a first-year player."

Syracuse coach Cooper says Brown injury not season-ending. Says six to eight weeks for recovery after surgery.

4-2 now.
update: 4-3 now, 3 unanswered goals by the Ice Caps...
update 4-4 now. Pretty epic meltdown by the Crunch atm, playing down to the level of the worst team in the league.

Has anyone else noticed, the Crunch only win .500 of the games when Korobov is scratched?

Korobov is missed everytime he's off the ice. The guy is pretty much a rock. Crunch played half a game tonight and thought that'd be enough. Basically slept the 2nd 30minutes. Five unanswered goals.

Conacher had his first Gordie Howe hat trick

http://boltprospects.com/content/cru...t-loss-icecaps
Quote:
Conacher looked to spark his team before that. After getting hit up high by Kael Mouillierat in the final 10 minutes, the 5-8 Crunch forward's challenge was accepted.

"It's just one of those hits I wasn't expecting and it was a heat of the moment thing," Conacher said of the third instance of fisticuffs on the night. "It was tough because it was at the end of my shift…I was just trying to get something going. They scored a couple on us to come back."
