It's obvious it would be Petersen.

How the NHL applies waivers at the beginning of the season will be a big part of this discussion IMO.

Dallas will bring 25 to 30 players max to a short training camp (and very likely closer to 25 than 30). I think it's also likely any AHLer who required waivers earlier this year who then attends NHL camp will require waivers to return to the AHL.

Waivers or no waivers, I believe Sceviour should be on Dallas' 4th line. He was a guy Gulutzen trusted in Austin in all situations. He plays every forward position, he's solid on faceoffs and a rightie, defensively sound, and can chip in on offense. Plus, he's cheap. He's pretty much an ideal depth forward.

He cleared waivers already when no team was going to make any claims earlier this year when the lockout was imminent. I think there's a legitimate risk Dallas could lose Sceviour on waivers (just like B.J. Crombeen) if they expose him during the beginning of the season should it happen in the next two weeks. I think several teams would jump at a guy in game shape with a league minimum contract. He just seems to have an ideal skill set for a depth forward, and the price tag is right for every team in the league.

Wow Austin Smith with some sick puck handling, turned into a good chance.

Omg that goal! Sick passing!

Goal went to Eakin with Chaisson and Nemeth assists.

Someone on the Stars took a puck to the face, didn't catch who it was though, too far away.

Well that was a good win for the Stars. They seem to be playing really well lately despite the mixed record. If they could just figure out Houston and Oklahoma City they'd be right at the top of the division

FYI for anyone who cares Fortunus did return to the ice. I'll admit that I was glad to see it was Fortunus and not one of the prospects.

Going with what BigG is saying with Sceviour, did he ever play consistently with Garbutt in the past?

Pretty sure Wathier/Sceviour/Glennie were together as a group for most of last season.

Sounds like a concussion to me.

It sure does. Not good. IIRC, he got hit in the head good with Dallas last year too.

Game was a lot of fun. I still can't believe Petersen got a goal. It was actually a pretty good one too.

They were probably the best line overall for the 2nd half of the season.

Fraser and Morin probably get the nod offensively though.

I see where you are going, and unless there are some injuries, I don't see Garbutt and Sceviour playing at the same time at the NHL level.

There's probably only space for one to play and one to sit. I'd throw Wandell in that group as well. I think there's basically one spot up for grabs to likely play with Fiddler and Nystrom, but even that's sort of unlikely because I could see Vincour (major assumption he's healthy) slotting in on the 4th line should Fraser or R. Smith steal the show in camp.

I think we can all agree there are 6 guys that are virtual locks for the Top 6: Benn, Eriksson, Jagr, Roy, Ryder, Whitney.

I think there's a strong likelihood will see Morrow with Eakin. My first guess would be Vincour slots in at RW, but I wouldn't be shocked for Fraser or potentially R. Smith to take that role (especially if Vincour isn't healthy).

I don't know that Gulutzen is going to bench Fiddler or Nystrom right off the bat. I think they get a long leash early. That means you have a potential mess of Fraser, Garbutt, Sceviour, Vincour, or Wandell fighting for the 12th, 13th, and 14th roster spot. Plus they are likely going to rotate like crazy.

I personally rank the importance of the players in the order you listed them, whether it was intentional on your part or not. Fraser with the most (offensive) potential, Sceviour's earned it/deserves a chance, Garbutt is someone I don't want to see the Stars give up on.

I think the Stars have test driven Vincour and Wandell, and it's been kinda meh. They can be characterized as good solid depth guys but they don't really play with much of an edge and I'm not sure the team is worse off without them in the long run, but it's a matter of opinion.

Like you say, they will rotate them like crazy, and it's nice to have the increasing depth that's maybe been lacking especially prior to the 2011-2012 season.

Eakin and R.Smith have chemistry now so you would think then two plus Morrow on the 3rd line would work.

But IMO R.Smith may be better off playing the year in the AHL getting lots of playing time.

Eakin, Vincour, and R. Smith as a whole line clicked. Doubt we'd see that in the NHL though.

Pretty much anyone is going to get a concussion from the hit Vincour took. But yeah, his history could exacerbate the problem and could mean a longer recovery.

I think this is an important point. In the past, rotating the bottom 6 meant "putting players in the lineup who shouldn't be in the NHL". That's not the case anymore, as the team finally has depth and multiple "correct" answers to fill various spots.

I'll also say this much about last night's game... The presentation at Cedar Park is better than the Dallas Stars presentation last year... Better music for sure.
