So just been looking at some of the stats of the Admirals (have barely followed hockey this lockout)
It seems the likes of Etem/McMillan/DSP are seriously struggling to put up points? Anyone have any reports on how some of these players are going?
Exit Dose can probably give the best reports but I'll give my opinions from the 15 or so games I've seen.
McMillan is not being used at all in an offensive role. He's generating some chances line but he's mainly used in defensive assignments and he's been pretty good in that role. He's mostly played on the third line this season.
Etem has looked much more comfortable at the AHL level since early November but he's still streaky as hell. He's starting to find other ways to score other than just skating around defensemen like he did in juniors although he's still capable of doing that every now and then in the AHL.
DSP has looked ok, he's been shuffled around the lineup a lot which has probably affected his numbers. I don't know how much offensive potential he actually has, he's good good instincts and vision but lacks a bit of finishing ability.
I'd add that McMillan's days as an NHL player likely over (barring few call-ups per season). He's turned into a grinder, and I think we have better options than him.
Etem is still finding his ways, but is developing all-around game.
Couldn't disagree more(about the last part). McMillan is clearly a grinder but To me he clearly has some offensive skills, but rarely has any opportunity to showcase his two way abilities. Mainly because of the lockout and having more depth at the AHL level.
I don't see a ton of better options at least in our system. McMillan shows the ability to play in all roles at all positions from what I've seen in the AHL. I'd certainly rather give him a shot than retreads like Hagman etc.
