With guys like Strome and Nelson eventually battling it out for that 2nd line spot, I think Sundstrom could end up being a very nice 3rd line center for us if/when the time comes. IMO it will all depends on what this team decides to do with Nielsen in the future.

Question though, has Sundstrom had any experience playing wing? If so I think he'll have a much better shot at a top-6 spot on the Island.
If my senility hasn't gotten worse, Sundstrom played RW on a line with Zibanejad in last year's WJC. Was solid all tourney for Sweden, they did win the gold.

That's a pretty big plus. Would be nice to have another RH wing aside from KO. At least now we have Kabanov and possibly Sundstrom if the Isles decide to give him a shot there.

BTW, I know we have Boyes, I just don't count him since I doubt he'll be re-signed. Things could change though, if there ends up being a season and he ends up having some success with JT and MM. Time will tell.

Sundstrom has, and CAN play wing. I would continue to develop him at the Center position until something forces him to move.

A lot of these forwards have played Center and Wing before... Cizikas, A.Lee, B.Nelson. So there is some flexibility here, which will be needed.

You're going to want your smartest guys with a real High Hockey IQ in the middle (Faceoff Ability helps as well). I used to be in the camp of moving Strome to Wing on Tavres side. Not any longer. This kid has Center written all over him. I also think highly of Nielsen, Sundstrom and Cizikas play in the middle. To me those are your 5 (Tavares/Strome/Nielson/Sundstrom/Cizikas) choices at center. Nelson, and Lee's games translate to the wing position better anyway.

Sundstrom played in the top line with Larsson and Friberg. Larsson at C, Friberg and Sundstrom as wingers.

Is Kabanov still injured?

Suspended 3 games for a legal line change but Mcilrath malicously elbows a guy in the head gets 2 games. Thats pretty crappy. Maybe they felt bad for Dylan for getting beat up by a guy thats a foot shorter and has about 17 inches less reach.

Haven't follwed BST too much this year. Meaning to get to a game.

Nonetheless, I knew enough to know that Nino was injured a few games back and that Hamonic is out too.

What's the deal with both? I believe Hamonic's been out for some time... what's his deal?

Lastly, in checking the Whale's team, looks like Superman Kreider is stinking up the joint. 11 points in 29 games. Not too good for someone touted as the second coming of Jesus.

.

Nino took a stick to the face, but is due back tonight.

Hamonic has a concussion. No idea how long he's out for.

Nino is playing. almost scored banging at a rebound. very good save. Onb a lien with Sundstrom and Ullstrom.

UPDATE:

1-1 Monarchs tiem it up on a goal from Tifolli. Jordan Hill played D by sliding sideways across the crease on his knees. Shot went off his sweater and through Nilssons Legs. Watching this defense is brutal.

Good 1st Period. Nilsson looks fine, own man deflected it just in front of him for the lone goal against. Martin Jones the opposing goalie has made several big saves (though the one goal he gave up was a softy)

Backman on the Backhand again. 2-1 SoundTigers.

Costello set up the play from behind the net, Halmo shot got stopped, Backman had open net rebound.

EDIT UPDATE

Cizikas goes five-hole. Play set up by a steal from Defazio and a beautiful delay saucer pass. Showed great patience.

Nino Strikes again, a deflection on a nice slap-pass from Wishart on the PP. Sundstrom cross ice setup pass to Wishart set up the play. 4-1 Bridgeport, 8 minutes to go.

Nino with 30 points in 30 games with that last point. This lockout may have been excellent for the Islanders.

He should stay the entire season in BST. His confidence is high and he should ride that

I don't think he'll have a choice, don't have much confidence in Bettman and Fehr getting it done.

Some Tigers news from their game preview from this morning:

NELSON SIDELINED – The Sound Tigers have announced that Brock Nelson is expected to miss the next 2-3 weeks with a fractured jaw. Nelson suffered the injury after taking a puck to the face in the second period of the Sound Tigers 4-3 OT W at Norfolk on 12/14.

JACKSON SIGNED TO PTO - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers announced they have signed defenseman Dallas Jackson to a professional tryout contract (PTO). Jackson, 23, earns his first AHL stint of the 2012-13 season after starting the year with the ECHL’s Gwinnett Gladiators. The 6’2, 188-pound defenseman has recorded 15 points (seven goals, eight assists) in 31 games to lead all Gladiators defensemen in points and goals.

SOUND TIGERS SIGN CAMPBELL TO PTO - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers have signed forward Scott Campbell to a professional tryout contract (PTO).
Campbell, 26, joins the Sound Tigers after beginning the season with the Las Vegas Wranglers of the ECHL. The Navan, ON native has appeared in 24 games with the Wranglers, posting 10 points (four goals, six assists) and 17 penalty minutes. The 6'2, 210-pound forward dressed in 19 AHL contests between Rochester, Texas and Houston over the past two seasons. Another quick start for Bridgeport. Goal 20 seconds in. Watkins from RIley and Defazio.

1-0 SoundTigers after 1st Period.

Landry hit two goalposts on the same 5-3 PP. And a few fights that never really quite got going.

Sundstrom scores. Donovan and Nino with the assists.

I'm getting more and more excited with the Swedes. Obviously saw a lot of Ullstrom last year and there is a lot to like, but I'm glad that Sundstrom and Persson are putting up points too.
