FORWARDS
Rick Nash ($7.800m) / Brad Richards ($6.667m) / Marian Gaborik ($7.500m)
Chris Kreider ($1.325m) / Derek Stepan ($2.600m) / Ryan Callahan ($4.275m)
Carl Hagelin ($1.450m) / Oscar Lindberg ($0.760m) / Kyle Jean ($0.925m)
Micheal Haley ($0.600m) / Brian Boyle ($1.700m) / Andrew Yogan ($0.800m)
DEFENSEMEN
Ryan McDonagh ($3.600m) / Dan Girardi ($3.325m)
Marc Staal ($3.975m) / Anton Stralman ($1.700m)
Michael Del Zotto ($2.000m) / Stu Bickel ($0.750m)
GOALTENDERS
Henrik Lundqvist ($6.875m)
Martin Biron ($1.300m)
------
CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $60,000,000; CAP PAYROLL: $59,926,667; BONUSES: $1,190,000
CAP SPACE (20-man roster): $73,333

And the NHL's proposal has the bonus cushion in existence for each season, so this most drastic scenario is actually not as drastic as it needs to be. What we lose in that situation is Michael Sauer and the veteran presences of Rupp, Asham and Pyatt. Finding Jeff Halpern type vets shouldn't be more expensive than Lindberg, Jean and Yogan anyway. If Sauer comes back healthy and performs really really well, then swap him with Stralman. All of these sacrifices combined are still far preferable to losing Marion Gaborik.

And I still think McDonagh, Stepan and likely Hagelin get less than what I laid out, but we will see. Obviously, it would be easier if the NHLPA could negotiate a higher cap for 13-14, but $60m is definitely workable if manipulated correctly.

How is Stralman a priority over Del Zotto? I doubt the Rangers see it that way.

The NHL played 1 season with a salary cap above $60M. $64.3M in 11-12.

Revenue increases to $3.6B. 50/50. $1.8B. Subtract $95M for benefits. Divide it by 30. Add $8M.

Upper limit is $64.8M. Its not inconceivable revenue can reach $3.6B in the near future. The NHL October proposal projected $3.6B with 5% growth within year 3 of the CBA.

Its not only one-way contracts. Not sure where Brooks got $625,000 from. The NHL proposal didn't include a salary number.

If its $625,000 and the PA accepts, the Rangers are fine for next season. Haley has a $600,000 cap hit.
If the threshold is $625k, there are no two-way deals that will count against our cap provided the player stays out of the NHL. Hell, if the threshold is $105k, only Collins, Segal and Newbury have two way deals that will have any effect (for a total of $385k). This is about dollars paid on the contract, not about what their cap hit would be if all of these guys were in the NHL.

I was wondering the same thing when I read it, but I think SM was suggesting it from a money standpoint. Stralman would be cheaper and eventually might be as good as MDZ offensively.

That last point is debatable though.

All of which need new contracts soon enough.

I love Del Zotto's skill level, but he has maturity issues, we already have two of the top shutdown left side defensemen in the league in McDonagh and Staal. Can't have that kind of skill or money on the third pair moving forward.

These are the kind of very difficult decisions that will need to be made.

This would be an optimal solution imo
Unfortunately I do not see Sauer returning at this point. If he does - another year in the minors for Big Mac might do him good. Same hit basically as Sauer will not get much of a raise if he were to return, considering the very boring circumstances
JT Miller might compete with Lindberg as a center
Thomas may compete with Fast
There is plenty of space to do more lineup tweaking around the contracts of Rupp, Asham and Pyatt (maybe also Stralman) too - if necessary.

I think they should find a way to keep gabby and Mdz like you proposed above. We only have to bridge gabby for the last year of his contract then hopefully he would resign for a lesser average per year due to age/injury history as Sathers leverage. As for MDZ we have absolutely no power play quarter back and I know he has not been great at it yet. He is the only one with the offensive upside in our system to get there. Our power play is bad enough now.

Anyone know if stall can play both sides on d ? If so maybe pair him with MDZ. That would have a beuke/leetch feel to it. And give MDZ some confidence to jump in the play more.

It would be nice to have some idea of what the PA thinks of this proposal, maybe not hearing anything is a good sign.

He's said all along that he expects there to be a season.

I don't think there's anyone that doesn't believe that a shortened season will happen. There is no way to justify a full season being lost twice in 8 years. There wasn't 8 years ago, either.

As RB says, it's all part of the script. The last day, a deal will be made for a 48-50 game season. And it will suck because whoever wins the cup will be marked with an asterisk.

So The TMLs will win it in 2013? Then The Mayans might be right after all - albeit one year off only

How is it even theoretically possible for the Giants to get a PO spot? Do not see it even with a tie in the other game.
If Washington wins or ties then they have more points than what NYG can possibly reach. If Dallas wins then they have the better Divison record. No???

Giants get the Wildcard if they win and the following three ALL lose: Dallas, Minnesota, and Chicago.

Wait, why are we posting this in the lockout thread

Yes, the playoffs are the same, and still the most grueling of any pro sport, IMO.

Still, when you're playing 34 less games, it is different. You play a lot less games, don't have to overcome as much and are not nearly as fatigued.

A normal full season cup winner will get props over a 48-game season cup winner. That's just the reality of it.

not sure which tie-breaker rule gets them in but a giants win plus dallas, minnesota and chicago all losing would get the giants in.

The players likely see it as a lesser cup. But this is the task at hand, and you go out and try to win against an awesome opponent with the same task.

Every team plays 48 games. And they all have to win 16 playoff games.

It's not as if the cup winning team is playing less than everyone else. I personally don't put an asterisk on the Devils' '95 win. It was an impressive run.

The talks are over for the day. Why rush it? Plenty of time. Maybe they're taking a siesta like some people in European countries do
