Hah! Trouba working Scheifele over in the corner. Ugh: silly penalty at a really bad time for RNH.

Jacob isn't holding anything back on Mark.
I'm glad. Be friends when you work towards the same thing.
He's competing and that's never bad.

Well, that finish was exciting. Hard fought win - made it more difficult on themselves than it needed to be.

Subban with an EXCELLENT game. Gibson and Trouba with an excellent game. Love the rough stuff that Trouba was laying on Scheifele - no holds barred. The Hube - Nuge - Scheif line was almost shut down, but at least they managed to squeek in one of the two goals.

Trouba was trying to get a bit back on Scheifele so when Scheifele is talking about beating them Trouba can say he buried Scheifs a couple times during the game.

Liked both of there games, Trouba was a rock defensively and played physical and scored a nice goal. Scheifele played a strong all around game doing a bunch of little things right. Mark had his chances but it was just one of those nights were the puck didn't go in. Once again I liked his ability to take the physical punishment and continue to go about his business. Whereas I thought both RNH and Huberdeau let it get to them. As an aside outside the goal I thought Hopkins had a terrible game, dumb penalty and was making terrible reads and plays all night.

Trouba is the defenseman of the tournament so far. I never leave disappointed after watching him play. Can't wait till he suits up for Winnipeg.

I've seen Trouba four times this year and he looks like an NHL'er right now. He could step in and contribute today.

I wonder what this off season will hold for him. Right now I expect him to return for his sophomore year but who knows.

If lipon got 1 game hartman should get 3

Boy the americans sure got pissy at the end of the game

Lots of cheap garbage shots

Trouba is a bit of a dirt bag.
Played a pretty good game though

Dougie Hamilton is pretty over rated imo

He doesnt impress me one little bit

I was thinking along the same lines. I can see him playing a second year in college, but I would like to see him get a shot after that.

Agreed, he's there with regards to his skating and strength. His decision making is also pretty solid an additional year of experience in college will not hurt him to any.

Boy, did trouba close the gap on drouin or what? He's faster than I thought.

My vote would be for him to return to school for one more year, play in WJC likely as the US captain (assuming Jones is in NHL), and grow a bit more as a player and person (to 6'5 ish and mature some more).

Then join the Jets as a 20 year old, able to push for top 4 mins. May not start out there, but that should be the goal. Coming from college and their lesser schedule, he'll need some time to adjust (year or so), but this kid could be dynamite in 2+ yrs.

Interesting that you assume Jones will be in the NHL next season. From what I've seen Trouba looks to be more NHL ready. No doubt Jones will be a talent, but IMO he will get eaten alive by NHL forwards at this point in his development.

Especially for his love of cross-ice passes that usually result in turnovers.

I am sure Jones would do alright in a sheltered role with PP time. He can be jaw dropping with the puck.

It will be interesting to see how they compare in a couple years. There are only 8 months separating their birthdays.

My assumption was based on a weak NHL team taking Jones with a top 2 pick, and having him join the club (even as a 3rd pairing dman) from the get go. He's a late birthday, so he'll be turning 19 next fall. Though it really depends on the team drafting him. A team like the Jets may just send him back if he's not ready. A team like the islanders would likely have him play at the NHL level.

I personally think Trouba is more NHL-ready, but will also return to school for one more year (imo).

I understand that Trouba is a draft class ahead of Jones, but IMO Trouba is a better player right now and has a higher ceiling. I think Trouba's offensive prowess has been a bit of a surprise, he has every physical tool, my only concern is that he's so physically dominant at the level he currently plays at that he'll have a huge adjustment to play his position in the NHL when he can't make up a stride on a forward or separate guys from the puck so easily. Lucky for us he has a classic hard-ass coach in Ann Arbor. Quite honestly I don't think Jones can live up to the hype, I think he'll be a solid top 4 D but not the franchise player a top 5 pick would suggest.

Although Michigan is a very good academic school , it is at best a 2 year JR. College for Trouba.

They'll likely keep him at Michigan for one more year.
