Now I'm not saying that Fehr should have just let the owners run roughshod over the players in this new one obviously, but he's been obstructionist at best and has been using stall tactics since day one of his position as PA head. For something that should have been done by Thanksgiving if both sides had the intention of actually cooperating and negotiating in good faith, we're pushing MLK day. And given Fehr's history with the MLBPA and the tactics he's used here I have to conclude that he's the biggest problem here much as Jacobs is the biggest problem on the NHL side of things.
Ofcourse those two are the biggest problems. They're also the biggest egos. If those two (and others) lose a season over this measuring contest I'm going to be livid. If they get a deal done and save at least half a season, Fehr did his job IMO. If they go the whole year everyone screwed the pooch because the players aren't going to magically get a better deal next year.

Yeah personally I just want to see the contracts that were signed guaranteed, a 50/50 split of revenue (maybe not by 2013-14, but by 2014-15), some of the cap circumvention that teams like the Rangers (burying **** contracts to **** players in the minors) and others (ridiculous length contracts with cheap extra years to get the hit down) gone. That's it. It's going to still require some give and take based on the NHL's offer (see 2013-14 cap part of the proposal) but it should be doable. Should have been workable months ago.

Of course, if the NHL comes out and rejects the PA's counter AGAIN in 15 minutes I'm going to lose my ****.

I think the frustrating thing is that most impartial viewers of this see exactly the same thing you do in terms of what needs to be done and the PA and the NHL are still trying to "win". It's just brainless at this point. What's going to drive me nuts is if Fehr pulls some more BS provisions no ones ever talked about in a counter proposal like he has in the past.

Well, there was a rumor that the PA was going to ask that relo/expansion fees be included in the HRR, but it appears to have been debunked. Thankfully.

That would have been a disaster.

When I read that, I immediately laughed. It was one of those "There's no way" laughs. Luckily, my reaction was right, or the deal would have been dead as soon as Fehr uttered those words.

Hopefully Fehr didn't put in some stupid clause that's never been discussed before.

I was worried about exactly that when I saw the "expansion/reloc. fees as HHR" rumor. I wouldn't have put that past Fehr in the slightest. Hopefully the rumored slight tweeks to offer is the NHL offer instead of an old PA one. If it's the former, we'll have hockey by mid-month I think, if it's the later we'll maybe have an on time start to the 2013-14 season... maybe.

According to Jsportsnet, the PA hasn't requested any changes to the HRR.

First time I've had any hope for an NHL season.

That's what I said they would ask for about 3 months ago and I'm shocked they never did.

ok so if this is true, we are still before the deadline right? so hockey would still be played this season? how much time are we expecting between the announcement and the first games? im ready to see what Semin and JStaal have to bring to the table. for real.

I believe training camps would start Jan 11th, with the season beginning Jan 19th.

Bombarded by email after tweet for deal tmrw. Now told serious hurdles still remain. Eternal optimism may have gotten best of a few sources.

Yeah, I'm not getting my hopes up. Until I read otherwise, I'm under the assumption the two sides are still far apart.

I think I liked the last lockout better, when there was less instantaneous media. I was blissfully ignorant about potential deals right up until the day they canceled the season.

Ironically, I've just finally accepted the acceptance phase. Not sure I care yet. We'll see in a week or two.
