NFL Network is saying Ron Rivera is next to get popped

RT @AdamSchefter: Whoa: Bears have sent out consent forms requesting permission to interview head-coaching candidates.

Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet
#Bears assistants are freaking out inside the building. Coach Lovie Smith's status is "not looking good." Decision time for #Bears.

https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/285769227980378113

And the Rivera thing is all speculation at this point:

Jonathan Jones ‏@jjones9
Panthers: player exit interviews will get underway in about an hour. Don't expect to hear one way or another on Rivera today

If whoever goes in CLE finds a QB in two seasons, they're going to look like a genius. They've got the goods everywhere but under center.

It was playoffs or bust for the Bears.

With an aging defensive team and after their big offseason trade, Lovie Smith getting axed should suprised no one

If Lovie is really out in Chicago, wow.

Wouldn't mind seeing him come back to Ohio State in some capacity.

Lovie Smith out, as per Rapoport on nfl.com. BWC is elated.

Lovie got a free pass last year because the team literally fell apart. They were a contender, and even afterward had two brutal losses against the Chiefs and Broncos where they didn't give up more than 10 points (through regulation).

If the Bears simply got in, then he would have stayed, but they didn't.

Also, as like a college mindset, Lovie himself said that beating the Packers is part of the job, and has been an abject failure since Cutler got there.

The only surprise so far is that Scott Pioli hasn't been fired yet.

If he manages to stay around, yikes...that's Matt Millen bad

Add in Tannenbaum, Heckert and Gene Smith from the GM side of it as well. How is Pioli hanging on still?

Maybe he's bamboozling ownership by continuously mumbling "5 Pro-Bowlers, 5 Pro-Bowlers, 5 Pro-Bowlers..."

I am a little shocked that Lovie was let go.
But he has been there for quite some time.

Guess it was time to change it up a little.

They need to start rebuilding that defense and o line

Hopefully the Bears rebuild with the new HC.

Lovie could have willed one more decent season out of an extremely old team.

I see Rivera coming back to the Bears.

Poor Lovie I know I said weeks ago that he should be fired if they missed the playoffs, but I had no idea that Minnesota would end up 10-6. 10-6 is 9 times out of 10 good enough to make the playoffs. Had GB won yesterday, Lovie would still have his job. But, hey such is life & I'm happy for BWC and any other Bears fan who wanted him gone.

All other firings so far have been well deserved.

I won't believe that Rex is safe until a new GM is hired. If the Jets' top candidate insists on being able to bring in his own coach, then I think Woody Johnson would go back on his word and throw Ryan under the bus in seconds (it wouldn't be the first time, after all.)

Anyone else get the feeling that the Bills might hire Norv Turner as their head coach? He would fit nicely into the Dick Jauron, Chan Gailey pattern of retreads that don't even know themselves how they got the job.

The only tragedy is that our took this long for Lovie to be fired. The Bears wasted a lot of career years of great players under his rule

I haven't found anything to confirm it today but yesterday it was basically seen as a mortal lock that not only Norv Turner would be dismissed but so would the GM whose name escapes me right now... AJ Smith?

Sounds like Scott Pioli isn't necessarily safe, just might depend on who they hire. Seems like they want a big fish: Reid, Cowher, etc. Doesn't mean they'll get one, but they might want one.

RT @jwyattsports: #Titans owner Bud Adams just informed Mike Munchak he will be back with the team in 2013

Pioli better not be safe. He's the worst thing that's ever happened to the Chiefs.
