Doesn't Giroux get injured pretty often? Kopitar before that one bad break had the kings longest consecutive appearance. Consistency, size, and skill.

His size will wear him down? Didn't slow Gretzky down to be small.

Giroux > Kopitar
Meszaros > Voynov

Absolutely god-awful for the Flyers.

I like it.

Not that I necessarily agree with the premise, but I think that the argument is that Giroux will wear down because of his size AND his style of play.

Gretzky, for all that he was, wasn't gritty, so he likely would have had some major wear issues if he played like Giroux does.

Fair. If he is referring to being physical, I understand the comment more.

I'm not too worried about Giroux in that sense. They're pro athletes and some of the best. Giroux has been outstanding playing this way over 82 games and I'm sure he'd endure the playoffs the same way.

I'm not really worried about Giroux's size either. He's gritty, but he picks his spots well enough that he doesn't get hurt that often. I love Richards, but he plays like a bowling ball out there. He stayed healthy enough last season, but I would suspect injuries are going to take some time from him in the future.

As far as the trade, I'm just going to reiterate what others have said. L.A. is in no position to trade a core piece that was instrumental to their cup win, and the Flyers won't move Giroux for anything short of a massive overpayment.

Lol I love how you say Kopi is substantially better defensively but Giroux is slightly better offensively.. Giroux holds a bigger advantage in offense than kopitar does defensively, there's not a GM in the league that would tell you Kopitar is the better player or more valuable.

That's just East Coast Bias, bro. You've obviously never watched a team West of Pittsburgh or South of Washington

I feel he's been rated pretty highly. Most are saying he's just below Giroux, which is hard to argue given their latest seasons.

How? He's had one great season and one amazing season on a team where Max Talbot scored 20 goals and the towel boy could probably get 10. Kopitar has had 4 seasons over 70 points on arguably the most defensive team in the league over that time period.

I get that Giroux just had an amazing season and you what have you done for me lately fangirls can't see the bigger picture, but there's a bit more to it when assessing a player.

That same Gretzky who didn't play a gritty game and who pretty much no one hit (yeah most of it was his hockey IQ but there was some very notable hesitancy about hitting him).

Giroux is the anti-Gretzky when it comes to people taking runs at him. And he plays a physically involved game. And his hockey IQ though certainly not lacking isn't quite on Gretzky's level. And he doesn't have enforcers riding shotgun.

Both players fit their teams systems. No on both sides.

I can't agree with your assessment in the slightest. You really believe that NO GM would think Kopitar is better than Giroux or value him more?

is this real life? Im sure a GM who prefers Defense first team would make a team around Kopitar and not Giroux, you expect Kopitar to put numbers up like Giroux when both systems are completely on opposite sides of the spectrum.

Interesting trade, but it just doesn't make a whole lot of sense

That's part of the reason they would riot. You can't just trade the face of the franchise every year. It would turn off the common fan. This is especially true because Giroux has been nothing but great.

Gagne for a pick once Kopitar is healthy? The top six appears set for the Kings with Kopitar, Brown, Richards, Carter, Penner, and Williams. Flyers could use an extra LW who I think would play well with Couturier.

Hartnell - Giroux - Voracek
Schenn - Briere - Simmonds
Gagne - Couturier - Read
Fedotenko - Talbot - Wellwood/Rinaldo

Brown - Kopitar - Williams
Penner - Richards - Carter
King - Stoll - Lewis
Clifford - Fraser - Nolan

Maybe in the next two seasons Giroux will surpass Kopitar, but right now Kopitar is above Giroux. Points aren't everything . Kopitar is top 5 in the league for two way players. Giroux is a great player and I think will be one of the best real soon but c'mon , Giroux for Doughty n Kopi ? Lmao

You dumb homers, start watching more games around the league.

Mez over Voynov ?

I wouldn't trade Kopitar for Giroux straight up, not because it would be a bad trade , it wouldnt but because Kopitar is our Franchise player. Nor would I trade Voynov for Mez straight up.

**** That !
