Are you telling me that all of these proposals in which teams trade four or five pieces they don't really need for a 23 year old who just hit 40 home runs are unrealistic?

Update- http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/1...n-pirates.html

Oh, they are trading him.

Right now I would put the Cubs as the front runners if taking their time is the case. They have the best position player prospects and can throw three out there easily.

Times on Theo's and the Marlins side, it seems.

Theres no need to trade him now, he's on the cheap until 2014 and has the ability to be a top10 or top5 player still, he's already pretty close to that.

He's also under team control until 2017, you won't get a player his calibre back via trade.

The marlins earlier trades this winter made sense because they were dumping salary but getting rid of a potential MVP player at a low salary is just dumb.

Wouldn't mind him on the Yankees. That team has turned me so allergic to homeruns but I think right-handed power might do them some good.

I put the Mariners as front runners for Stanton. They want to move towards competing, and Stanton helps a lot of their offensive woes. He's also young enough where sending out prospects makes sense.

Walker + Paxton + Franklin is a pretty enticing package.

The biggest chip the Jays had went for a 38 year old gimmick pitcher. Isnt gonna happen.

Agree. They are desperate for offense and they have tons to give up.

Having Jose Fernandez and Walker at the front of the rotation in the nearer future would be extremely tempting. Paxton is no slouch and Franklin could move to 2B with Marlins as they have a hole there.

If I were commish, I would prevent the Marlins from dealing Stanton. Enough is enough.

Problem is, unless things radically change (i.e. Stanton embraces what they did to the roster), they risk losing him for nothing down the road because at this point its doubtful that he will ever sign a longterm deal here. Better to trade him while his value is the highest, rather than later on when he might get injured/have a subpar year.

Since Selig didn't block the Blue Jays - Marlins 12 player trade, what reason legit reasons would he have to prevent them from trading Stanton?

Probably none. That's why he said "if I was commish."

I'd throw everything and everyone in terms of prospects for Stanton.

If the Jays could get Bautista to move to 3B, MAYBE. Stanton is a once in a generation type talent, and trading him would obliterate whatever fanbase the Marlins had left. A team would pretty much have to gut the top 5 of their farm (even if Nolasco is included as a dump), considering how many teams would drool over a talent like him. The Rays would be an ideal target, and they have the depth and pieces to make it work, and I'm sure they'd be willing take on Nolasco as a back end veteran to take pressure off the youth in that rotation.

Dont forget they also have Turner and eovaldi(sp?)(former Dodgers prospect).

Mariners make the most sense for the Marlins if they were to trade Stanton.

He's 4 years away from FA. They can wait 2 years and still get a king's ransom.

Difference is the Blue Jays trade unloaded HUGE salaries. Stanton will make very little in 2013. There's no reason he should be dealt for futures.

That's probably not enough to land Stanton. There's a lot of potential in that package, but of the three, only Franklin has played AAA ball, and he was only there for 64 games. The Marlins should be looking for MLB-ready prospects or close to it.

They've basically taken that roster and burned it to the ground. First to post the Nickelback song I'm referencing gets poked in the eye. This is your only warning.

pretty much everyone would be willing to gut their farm system for a player like Stanton but there's so much potential for a trade like that to go wrong

imagine how damaging it would be to that franchise if it turned out like another Cabrera trade
