Kings were a playoff team ,, The NHL is proposing all non playoff teams have a shot at #1 pick (NBA style)

While it was never intended for playoff teams to have a crack at the #1...I would be less bothered by that then the Oilers tanking 3 years in a row for the #1. That should not be allowed IMO.

No doubt there should be a limit of 2 in a row.

i agree ... just get the damn deal done.

i'll be interested to see whether the lockout has any effect on fanbase interest in LA or Florida (Panthers).

unsurprisingly, articles in canadian media have said that the lockout has affected the season ticket holder base in toronto and montreal...not at all

i can only assume that with the reno to msg, the rangers will make even more money when the lockout is over and done with.

re: draft - i'm fine with every non playoff team have the potential to get the #1 pick. i don't like the current system.

re: brief re-alignment. no thanks - i'm happier w/ columbus in our div than winnipeg.

last chance for the players to finally agree to a deal.

It's not about the Players vs. owners anymore. It's about the good players with 4+ million & Fehr vs owners vs the other players

I hate all sides, they all don't care about those that made them earn that kind of money

They'll never make that same kind of money again, maybe close but things are going to change in the weak markets for the worse, just a question of how bad.

Thats why guys like Brenden Morrison, Kevin Westgarth, Adam Burish, and Jamal Mayers are the most vocal about how THEY personally don't like the deals offered. Their combined salary? Less than 3mil TOTAL!!

Its a myth that its about players with high salaries.

Westgarth and Morrison are angling for NHLPA jobs (They aren't NHL players at this point)

Mayers has always been hardline union guy

Burish is vastly overpaid ,, One of the most expensive 4th liners in NHL. Of course he is against a decrease in players share

What about Montador, Boyes, Campoli, and the 400+ other NHLers that are 100% behind the PA that make less than 4mil? I suppose they are just lobbying for PA jobs after their careers too.

Well now that the NFL is done for the year, it's time for these guys to come to a deal so we can get our Hawks back.

Rumor is NBC threatening to pull the contract if the season get's cancelled has the NHL pushing hard to get a deal done.

Heard a rumor that NBC, if the season was cancelled would file a breach of contract with the NHL and not only get out of their current deal but possibly seek damages and that is why the NHL went back to the table right now.

The owners where fine with letting the players fester over their last deal but the prospect of losing their 1 major TV deal is something they can't ignore because if it is true the loss of the NBC deal would set the NHL back decades. NBC is capable of doing what no fan is and that is threatening the NHL with billions of dollars of lost money if they don't get their #### together.

The reason NBC waited so long to speak out was because until now they had the Olympics and NFL to broadcast, with the NFL season over and NBC only getting Wild Card play-off matchups after Jan 5. their sports division would be left with nothing to broadcast until March with the NCAA tournament. With almost 3 months of nothing to air they felt the time was now to get the NHL back on.

What are you talking about? NBC doesn't have the NCAA Tournament, CBS and Turner do.

Article from last summer:
“The NHL and NBC signed off on a 10-year, $2 billion deal in April 2011, which begins with the 2012-13 season. So there's been hope that this investment would expedite a CBA settlement and prevent a lengthy work stoppage. “ NOT.
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-pu...0920--nhl.html

I don’t doubt that what Pyscho posted is true. Bettman will be under tremendous pressure to get this signed. (and no matter what, you can bet Fehr will push the envelope, once again). He better not push it too far, or the owners will take their chances and fold it up for the season. This is the perfect opportunity for Fehr to ask for a few minor tweaks, sign and claim he got what he wanted, and in the end it was GB who caved in. This stupidity has gone on long enough

Its all Fehr's fault right?

Allan Walsh‏@walsha

Talked to NHL team executive this morning who was furious. He was raging that Bettman refuses to consult or update teams on negotiations.

Allan Walsh‏@walsha

NHL team executive furious that the guys who build teams, know CBA and business inside out completely frozen out by Bettman.

Allan Walsh‏@walsha

NHL Team Executive: "We don't know what's in the 288 pages the league proposed. Every one of my players do."

/\ Who cares whose fault it is at this point. Let's just get it done. Losing a TV contract would be another nail in the coffin of a few of the struggling teams...

Yes ,, 100%

Walsh has been a complete joke during this entire lockout

Did you not see way he went after Russo (Min writter)? Even pro-union writters took him too woodshed for his antics

Doubt NBC would have a case ,, NBC signed deal with knowledge that a work stoppage would likely occur

NHL would successfully argue in courts that work stoppages are unpredictable and likely put safety legal statements in contract with NBC

Also NBC is trying to build up NBCsports brand... Without NHL there sports channel is even more in dire situation

Any contract that was signed would have "work stoppage" language included. It's not like these contracts are signed on a napkin without legal advice.
