What's up with this thread title???? As a person who was slightly worried about December 21st of this year, I don't like this new thread title.

I'm batting 1/25 on having good New Year's Eve (though 2009-10 in Kesälahti was probably the greatest experience of my life)...I'm thinking I'll just stay in this year.

I am staying home. I don't really care about new years eve. Though I do have tomorrow off work which is nice. I miss being a teacher though. One day off shouldn't be this exciting when I was off for like 13 days at this time last year

I had a party to attend and buzzes to kill, but as it turns out I have a bad cold, so I'll be staying in. Not really a big fan of NYE anyway. Supremely thankful for the day of tomorrow, though.

Well both of my potential plans fell through anyway, so I'm definitely staying in tonight. I wasn't going to be too upset with that even before my trip to BevMo.

I found me some Moose Drool, a couple Celebrators, some Glenfidditch, some Crown Royal, and a couple nice cigars.

To hell with people, good times were meant to be spent with the company of scotch and a good cigar.

So, I just deactivated my Facebook after having it about 7 years. Didn't make a big going away post or anything. Good times.

Let's see how my productivity increases. Or, if I just post more here, haha

Amen brother!!!

Fire one of those up and smoke one for me bro. What kind of cigars are ya smokin' tonight anywho???

My cigar days are over until winter ends. Both because it's too cold to sit on the deck and smoke for that long and mainly because I don't wanna smoke cigars in here and have my woman breathing in all those chemicals.

So instead I find myself with a six pack of Samuel Adams Boston Lager and a few bottles of Hobgoblin.

I grabbed a few that I haven't tried before - a Bolivar Churchill and three Hoyo De Monterreys. They didn't have any of my preferred ones so I figured I'd try something new.

I've decided to throw one of my favorite films into the picture tonight...and, of course, it's a war film (well...anti-war).

Now all I need is some bacon.

Haven't tried any of those cigars man. Are they good?

And yeah, bacon does sound perfect right now.

This year's Chocolate Bock is better than its ever been. Not sure if they have been tinkering with the recipe a bit or not, but the chocolate aftertaste is perfect this year.

Actually just have never found a good beer that's had a unique flavor like chocolate or anything. Sam Adams Cherry Wheat tastes like robitussin. Sea Dog Blueberry Wheat is garbage.... guess I can't drink beer that isn't flavored like beer....I've poured beers through a hollowed out pumpkin that have been great, but never found a good pumpkin beer.

I'll give the Sam Chocolate a try though. wish me luck. go pens.

Paths of Glory.

If you've never seen it then you owe it to yourself to do so. It's not an underrated movie (#54 on IMDB's Top 250 and in numerous top film discussions), but one that just doesn't get talked about enough. Only three films above it have fewer votes on that IMDB list...two of them were silent and the other was probably the first truly great 'talkie'.

I remember watching it for the first time when I was going through my discovery phase in high school, it was the 2nd Kubrick film I saw (and, to be honest, the first one I liked...2001 took numerous viewings before it became the greatest anything humanity has ever done in my eyes) and I always ranked it very highly...but for whatever reason I never revisited it until just now. I think the (formerly) overpriced and difficult to find bare-bones DVD had a lot to do with that, but the fact that it got the Criterion treatment a couple years ago evaded me and I only just now picked it up and watched it for a second time.

It's been a long time since I've been floored by watching a movie, especially one I've seen before, but holy ****. I almost forgot how brilliant that it was. I'd make the argument that it may have the best ending ever.

Hell, it's been a long time since I've watched movies with any sort of regularity. I think 2013 will be the year I get back to that. While I'm here to write for television, movies have always been my passion and primary source of inspiration.

Feel happy that you can enjoy stuff like that, because I can't. Once you start watching movies with the eyes of a critic it's hard to enjoy popcorn flicks. The first couple years of college I was heading down the path of being a critic.

Hell, I was taken out of Paths of Glory for about five minutes because one of the supposedly dead soldiers flinched when artillery fire came near him. That's how you know it was an early Kubrick film. By the 70s he'd probably have the extra flogged for such a thing.
