Why doesn't Calgary have to give up anything good but Ottawa has to give up its franchise superstar and Colorado has to give up one of the best young centers in the league?

Baertschi and Gaudreau aren't good? Haha.

Baertschi has sky high potential and is one of the top Forward prospects in the game. Gaudreau has high potential as well

They're good, but not when you compare them to a superstar franchise player in Spezza and a former Calder runner up who would be a number one center on a lot of teams. Top line players for prospects doesn't sound fair to me.

Especially to Ottawa, they would need a hell of a lot more incentive to trade Spezza.

No clue why Calgary would want Spezza

They haven't had a number one center in about 20 years. That might be why.

He's actually 5'9. That said, I'd do it in a heartbeat, but not sure why Ottawa would do this. Nevermind that the Flames don't have their 2013 second rounder.

So the Avs give up Duchene and get 2 completely unproven prospects who could completely bust and a 2nd? lol no.

Yeah, it favours Calgary I guess.

My plan was to trade Spezza for Duchene... but the Avs would not have interest in Spezza I would think, so I tried including a team that needs a #1 centre.

ah well.

So Duchene is gonna stay on the 3rd line forever?

Is the biggest need for the Avs scoring wingers? That's what I thought it was. If not we can change the prospects.

Interesting offer. Not to far off. Switch Gaudreau to Brodie and a 1st; than maybe.

I doubt Calgary needs Bishop with Irving and Ramo.

The value as a whole deal is fine IMO.

But when broken down, the flames obviously get the better end.

So Calgary gives Baertschi, Brodie, a 1st, and a 2nd for Spezza and a goalie they don't need?

How about no.

Seems like a steal to me... You get a top 10 center and really give up a top prospect, a young (fairly unproven) dman, and picks.

No, it is certainly not. Avs fans have stated what we need MANY times. We need a top pairing LH defensman, that can play now. NO prospects. Avs have no interest in setting our team back and trading Duchene for prospects. There is no basis of a deal to be made here from an Avalanche perspective

29 is old?

If they need scoring wingers, they can get better (and more proven) assets, especially for a guy like Duchene.

He's 29. He has about 5 years of his prime left, barring injury, and could play for 8 - 10 more years.
