Supposedly it was significantly closer to nifty stick-work than a spear. He got fined for it, no suspension. I've noticed Mangene is quite scrappy after the whistle too. Nice little area of his game I wasn't expecting.

Hostetter destroyed a guy in a fight last night as well. They'd been jawing at each other all game, and Hos finally dropped everything and threw 3 big punches before the other guy had his gloves off...then, when broken apart by linesman, he got close enough to land another shot. Fortunate to avoid discipline.

Sounds like most of that laundry list last night was from a (shocker) ref losing control of the game. BOTH coaches appealed the use of him for tonight's game.

Speaking of which, they lost tonight. Scored 2 in the first 3 mins and nothing the rest of the game. Reading scored 3 in the 3rd for a W. Mangene had a gorgeous GW-pass that a wide-open Bohmbach fired into the side of the net with barely a minute to go, and Johnston was hauled down on a potential breakaway at the red line in the 3rd, and received a diving call rather than a penalty shot.

Several heavy hits and a wrestling-match of a fight was all that culminated from the ****-show last night in Reading.

Their AHL salaries aren't high enough to wear those. Shockingly ugly.

After 2 periods, it's a 3-3 tie.

Couturier has a goal
Schenn has an assist

Bridgeport wins 4-3 in the SO.
Cal Heeter takes the loss after relieving Monroe who allowed 3 goals on 17 shots.

The Flyers prospect pool has been given a lot of flak lately, but I don't think it is as bad as everyone makes it out to be. IMO, I think they currently have 3 forwards (Laughton, Cousins, and Noebels) and 1 defensemen (Ghost) who look like they have NHL level talent. The forwards, and it might be a little premature on Noebels, might never amount to being more than excellent third liners with some offensive pop and Ghost might not be higher than 2nd pair defensmen. However, when 3 of those players were drafted after the 2nd round, that is very good scouting. Personally, I think Willcox develops into an NHL defensemen too making the pool even deeper.

No, we have a terrible prospects pool. We have a few players that are projects that could possibly amount to NHL talent, but the rest will most likely never develop into anything.

What do you guys think of Schenn and COuturier's production in the AHL so far? I haven't followed it much. I see that they are both about PPG, but how do they look on the ice?

like everyone has said, the Phantoms would be pretty bad without them (and Munroe)

I'm excited about Ghostisbehere but he may never make the NHL or stick. Syvret put up pretty good numbers in Juniors and played in the WJCs for team Canada (granted not while a lockout was going on) and wasn't able to stay up in the NHL.

Biggest difference: Syvret skates like an AHLer. Gostisbehere is a plus skater. But you are right that there are no guarantees.

Well i think there could be other reasons. According to all the beat guys the Flyers are really high on Noebels. Also he has been dominate in December. According to an article i read (gotta find the link) Noebels from the beginning of the season has changed for the better. His coaches showed him video of what he was doing wrong and he worked on fixing it. Ive always been a big noebels fan and feel like he can be Hartnell type of player. Time to see how he does in the AHL now.

Also there are those rumors that if the lockout ends with schenn and couts brought up the phantoms need offense. I think akeson and noebels can do well together like they did in the echl.

He's happy. That's a bit of a lost in translation quote. I knew that'd come up sooner or later

He has held his own as a toothpick freshman getting pretty good minutes at Cornell. According to reports, he moved the puck pretty well at prospect camp. He just fits the profile as some one who could make it as a late round guy: good frame, good mobility, moves the puck well from a lower league who just needs to add weight and experience. He hasn't look out of place as a freshman which is a good sign. The biggest jump for successful NCAA prospects is from freshman to sophomore so next year will really be a good indicator. No real insight, just a hunch from what I read when comparing to past successful guys.

Have we lost all hope in Vasiliev?

Around the time we picked him everyone was saying he was the steal of the draft

I don't know how you can lose hope in a 7th rounder six months after drafting him. Especially one in which no one has really seen play this year.
