"That would increase the Blueshirts’ 2012-13 cap charge to approximately $64.535 million for a shadow roster featuring two goaltenders, six healthy defensemen plus Michael Sauer, who is expected to be sidelined all year with post-concussion syndrome;"
Well that royally sucks cause Sauer would of helped alot. Its been a long time so even though I am an optimistic person I am going to have to count him out, who knows if he will be back. It makes Gilroy a descent depth signing and they could go with 8 D with Bickel as a spare F too
McDonaugh, Girardi
Staal, Stralman
Del Zotto, Eminger, Gilroy, Bickel..........on a side note McIlrath has a legit shot at the team next yr. Obviously a whole at 6th D

If Redden has to be on the cap this season and it doesnt effect the Del Zotto situation, I wouldnt mind him battling for the 6th spot. Seriously.

Interesting...if he can fit under the cap for this season, Redden on the 3rd pair might not be the worst thing in the world. I mean it's not like our other options are that great.
Maybe he wants to reach the milestone? Who knows? If he counts against the cap, then maybe the Rangers let him battle it out for a spot.
They'll probably just amnesty him.
As it stands now, the amnesty buyout will not be until June (hopefully, the date will change). Anyone who thinks Redden stands any chance of competing for a job has forgotten what he looked like his last season here. Plus, Tortorella wants nothing to do with him.

I havent forgotten, but I also know what Bickel/Eminger/Gilroy have looked like too.

I would consider it a possibility if not for the fact that I think Torts and Wade are likely done with each other. Redden didn't even do camp last year.
Its possible that they try him out in our camp and see, but i'm filing it under unlikely.

They didn't invite him to camp because if he was injured there or during the preseason they wouldn't be able to send him to the AHL and would have had to work harder to get under the cap. It wasn't because Tortorella didn't like him or something (though I'm not saying whether not Tortorella does like him)
Redden is not coming back--Tortorella was the one that exiled him and I can't imagine a situation where he would want him back.
As for Bickel: it's foolish to assume that Bickel will get better. It's equally likely that he had his career year and will never be as "good" again. My feeling is, if Bickel's in the lineup come playoff time, then the Rangers' chances are diminished.

Can someone remind me if Bickel beat out Eminger straight up last year or if Eminger was injured? For some reason I think it was straight up. However, I think Eminger would at least not be a joke as a #6. I think Eminger would round out our top 6 pretty well.

Eminger was hurt. And very honestly, in my opinion, while he has more skill than Bickel (Eminger was a first round pick), he's really not a major improvement over Bickel. Some things he does better than Bickel, in some things Bickel is better. However, my feeling is that neither of them are good enough to play on a regular basis. We have two 7th defensemen right now.

eminger was in the lineup from opening day. bickel got called up after sauer got hurt and played his first game 12/20 which was the game after eminger dislocated his shoulder...
my memory is that eminger was playing pretty well at the time he got hurt, getting extra ice time with sauer out...but he was an embarassment after he returned from the injury and never refound his game.
Just received information that the injury to Hagelins shoulder is quite serious and it is still bothering him. Might require surgery.Very bad news imo!

When was Hagelin injured? I forgot how long ago it was.
