He is in his final year and will be deserving of a raise.. With talk of a lower CAP, can Minnesota afford to keep him? What would they want in return? Picks and prospects? NHL ready player? What is the Wild's goalie pipeline look like?

I thought he was UFA for some reason after reading this thread

Minnesota can't afford to lose him as a RFA

Every team will want Cal Clutterbuck. He's the perfect third line player.

Get Buttercup, put him on a line with Downie and Malone and watch the three of them run the opposing team crazy.

Sharks should start a quick rebuild. Not add players for another run.

Honestly, trading Thronton, Marleau, Clowe and Havlatt would save them 3 years on a rebuild.

Add that to Couture, Pavelski, Burns, Demers and they'd be a damn good looking younger team.

Thronton and Marleau are far from done. While the Sharks may not dominate as they once did, their roster is more than adequate to push for a cup run.

this. also, acquiring Stuart to play with burn's sometimes reckless game i def consider them top 3 defense in the league.

I like Colorado's version much more than LA's. And Richards and Brown look like good little choir boys compared to Downie.

He fits perfectly on any team. A player like him is always worth more to the organization than what teams are willing to pay for.

We're going to need a top-4 D, preferably RH coming back. Something around Braun or Demers?

Or we could give you Setoguchi, Coyle, and Phillips for Burns.

After this season, the Wild have 3 contracts totaling ~$13m coming off the books in which those players won't be returning (Bouchard, Cullen, Backstrom). Going into next season, the Wild will be sitting right around $53m needing to re-sign Clutterbuck, Spurgeon, Scandella, and Hackett. It will be tight, but the Wild can likely fit all of those players in, even if they need to do some minor roster shuffling.

Clutterbuck's next contract is likely to come in just over $2m, give or take. Brodziak just signed a a 3 year deal at $2.83 per and Clutter isn't coming near that point with this team.

As for what it would take for Clutterbuck in a trade, I really don't see the Wild moving him unless they're adding to him with a higher valued prospect and/or a high 2013 draft pick in order to acquire a legit top 4 defenseman.

I feel like the Wild could sell pretty high on Clutterbuck. He's a solid player but I bet he would get overpaid for.

Wish the Isles could get him, he and Matt Martin in the bottom 6? Wow!
