Former Saskatoon Blade Forward Jake Trask will be playing for the Nispissing Lakers after the Christmas break. I'm not sure how to delete a post but this is not correct information. Sorry!

Laurier Adds Christmas Recruit

Laurier adds former OHL top six and physical forward in Derek Schoenmakers. Schoenmakers, a Kitchener native, played part of 3 seasons with the Mississauga Majors before being traded to Sudbury part way through his 19 year old season. Shortly before this season started, he was moved to Windsor in an effort by Sudbury to maximize value and reduce their overage roster down to 3 players. In an effort to shake up their team, Peterborough then dealt for him during November. As the below articles indicate, it appears Schoenmakers grew tired of the constant movement and trades, failing to report to the Petes and decided to weigh his options and education.

As a player, his best season came in 2011-2012 where he scored 26 goals and 50 points. He played on the 2010-2011 Majors team which hosted the Memorial Cup. He also earlier this year played with the Sudbury Wolves in Europe in the World Junior Club Cup where he added 3 goals in 6 games en route to Sudbury's win.

There was speculation involving Laurier roughly a month ago:
Press from Peterborough where he failed to report http://www.thepeterboroughexaminer.c...r-schoenmakers

Press from Kitchener where he would have been a welcome addition, and the teams top overager http://www.therecord.com/sports/rang...t-with-rangers

Both articles mentioned his training with Laurier where he was contemplating enrollment. The general consensus appeared he would either wait for a trade to his hometown Rangers, or enroll at Laurier to begin his CIS career. It appears he has chosen the latter as he now appears on Laurier's roster.

He is listed at LW, and will likely slot in as an offensive player with power play time. He is the first 50 point OHL player to play for Laurier since Craig Voakes, and his CHL goal and point totals are the highest of any current Laurier players.

Krush Cancer

For those of you in the Ottawa area

Former Gloucester Ranger and Robert Morris standout Chris Kushneryk is fighting Testicular Cancer. A Charity Game on his behalf will be held Thursday Jan 27th, 8 pm at the Minto arena. It will consist of local NHL, NCAA, CIS ( Ottawa and Carleton) and CCHL Players. Come and attend a worthwhile cause and help Chris in his battle against Cancer.

A scoop from bison land today. Expect former Brandon Wheat King Brodie Melnychuk to join the already loaded back end of the Manitoba Bison for the second half. Should be in the lineup for the first weekend in saskatoon. Big stay at home guy, they have a lot of guys like this back there so could be a good battle for spots! Who is the next team to add. Calgary Dino's have been very active in trying to get anyone and everyone back from the minor pro ranks.......look to see them add a few I am told!

UNB has former Guelph d-man Tim Priamo in the line-up this afternoon. He played two years with the Gryphons and and then a year in the ECHL and hadn't played thus far this year. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

UNB picked up a Christmas gift - new defenceman Tim Priamo. The former pro has not played this season as he rehabbed an injury. He played for Guelph for two seasons in 2009-11 before turning pro. He did graduate from Guelph and is entering the UNB MBA program this week. He will wear #5 for the Varsity Reds.

Priamo is a good player, and apparently a good student from what someone pointed out to me on here. Few players in the OHL are able to complete 2 years of their undergrad while playing major junior hockey, which is the reason he only played 2 years at Guelph (CIS) and was able to graduate. He is big, strong, physical, and good both offensively and defensively. He and Nathan Martine were one of the better pairings in the OUA during his time with the Gryphons, both selected for the University Games in 2010-2011.

There must be some ECHL pick ups out there. CIS deadline has come, who has recruiting news?

Not entirely recruiting, but Lakehead defenceman Danick Malouin has decided to leave their program due to lack of ice time. The second half of the season should see the return of Jay Gilbert and Mitch Fillman according to a Lakehead press release, which leaves Malouin as an 8th/9th defenceman. He has over 230 games in the QMJHL and good size at 6'4. I am kind of surprised at some of the players who have played more than him this year (he has dressed for only 3 regular season games).

The press release mentioned he may consider moving to a school closer to home. Perhaps he will reappear at a new CIS school.

He could be a good fit in GeeGee's uniform. They are desperate for d-men who know how to play in their own end. I would say that uOttawa gives up more odd man rushes and backdoor goals than any other CIS team and don't get me started on giving up short-handed goals thanks to point men fumbling pucks at the opposition blue line.

I think that the last straw for him was not getting into the lineup for either of the exhibition games this past weekend vs McGill. I dont blame him. I dont get why he couldnt at least get in there for one of those games. Fillman and Gilbert are back and did play both games vs McGill.

Our top 4 are pretty clear cut IMO - Fillman/Quesnele/Sagert/De La Lande. That leaves only 2 spots for DeLory, Maw, McIntosh, Gilbert, even after Malouin leaves. I do think that the only one that he's possibly better than is McIntosh, but I still would have liked to have seen him get a game in every now and then. There wasnt that big of a talent level difference for him not to be playing at all.

He would turn the puck over in our own end a little more than some of the others, and I guess that's why they werent using him. He also liked to join the rush on the offensive end. Sometimes he picked the wrong times to do that, but he hardly did anything to warrant not playing for months. He was pretty solid last year, given that he was only a freshman. I'm sure that there are teams out there in the CIS that could use him.

Other teams can't use him for another year. He has to sit out 1 year from his last game.

I've put this info in the wrong thread, but former Gatineau goalkeeper Francois Lacerte will join the Ottawa Gee Gees. Good thing for the Paiement squad is that Lacerte is in game shape.

Last friday, he was named first star in the LNAH game he played, facing shots from former NHLers Denis Hamel and Steve Brulé among others.

Just wondering if anyone knows where Alex Beauregaurd is playing now? He is eligible to play CIS. Anyone hear? Moncton maybe?

Just learned that Danick Malouin will be joining the UQTR Patriotes next year. He's supposed to register at the university today.

Thought he might turn up, and as stated, due to lack of ice time, UQTR will get him next season for likely 24-26 regular season games depending on the schedule, and not only for 2014. He is eligible mid October.

Plus, his brother Jérémie is a one pt per game player with the Drummondville Voltigeurs in the Q. The addition of Danick could help recruiting him.
