Nylander-F.Karlsson-Lindblom
Timashov-Franzen-A.Karlsson
Engvall-Forsbacka Karlsson-Törnqvist
Kovacs-Kempe-Muzito Bagenda

Looks like the forward lines today.

Best "surprises" so far have been Lindblom and Muzito-Bagenda. Lindblom really knows how to put it in the net, M-B combines good checking line qualities with soft hands. Emil Johansson has been good aswell, good two-way D. Ollas-Mattsson has an intriguing gritty style and a solid passing game, but lacks in foot speed.

Must underwhelming has probably been Timashov, he's skilled with the puck on his stick but compared to the best guys on Sweden he's slower and not as strong on the puck. Markus Pettersson hasn't been very apparent for a guy slotted as high as the 1st round. I haven't noticed him much in the D zone either, but I suppose that's more of a positive. Me thinks he might be a tad overrated because of his size, Sebastian Aho has been just as good if not better in this tournament.

A bit off topic perhaps, but what happened to 1996-born Erik Flood? He was named best defenseman at TV-pucken 2011 and looked really good with great vision, passing and skating. Has his development stalled a bit or are there some weaknesses in his game that has been exposed this season?

Even if his numbers look alright, he's only 12th on his team in scoring and third among Ds. One of the better producing Ds on MoDo J18, Lukas Ekeståhl-Jonsson was on the U17 camp heading into this tournament, but not Flood. So leaning towards not good enough season, I guess.

Yup, I saw those stats. Would be interesting if someone who actually have seen him play this season could give a little report. Is he lacking in the physical parts of the game perhaps? He seemed to have excellent vision, hands and skating in Tv-pucken, but he's not a big framed player.

Aho is more hyped than Pettersson in Skellefteå at least, their former junior coach said he is the best D he has coached second to Adam Larsson and Jimmie Ericsson has been quoted to say Aho is his favorite player among the juniors and might be our "next young star". I guess size isn't as important to SEL-teams.
As to being noticable, Pettersson played a lot during the first game vs West, not at all against Finland and only sporadically against Russia. (I didn't catch the game vs Pacific.)

Yeah, you're right about the ice time. And not much PP time when he's played either. So it might be a lingering injury or illness. I'm not too hard on the kid, he's just not been a standout for whatever reasons. But I think the Skellefte coach probably is right about Aho, and he's obviously looking from a big ice standpoint and not some distant NHL draft. At this age, I'll take the skill set. Aho probably has some room to grow too, they're only 16.

I think a solid goaltending effort will be key to win, I have little doubt Sweden will carry the play for most part.

Do you know if there will be any stream(s) from the game? As a funny side note, Nylander will play with his dad in Södertälje. How odd isnt that hahaha.

Bit of a side note, but I was expecting Swedish hockey development to slip a bit after all the talk of the baby boom years of the early nineties and subsequent expected downturn in prospects coming through the following years.. but we just seem to keep churning them out, don't we.

Many expected it to slip after the -90/91(?) crop I think. It's funny though in retrospect, that "golden generation" wasn't the one who gave us a WJC gold.

Surely, it's hard to project a crop of 14-16 year olds and junior development improves every year which hopefully compensates for the lower birthrate.

Certainly looks that way. Being a Swedish hockey fan is quite the pleasant experience in this day and age.
