An insurance plan won't cost us much. No reason not to have one.
I agree. What I am saying is Wiercioch will not be out of place playing 3rd, 4th defense minutes.

Do you guys see players like Hoffman and/or Grant taking Condra's and Daugavins spot? Much more skill and finish, better skaters and have some better size on the bottom 6.

Michalek- Spezza- Silfverberg
Latendresse- Turris- Alfie
Greening- Regin- Neil
Hoffman/Grant- Smith- O'Brien
Grant/ Hoffman

Not that I'd want to, but Michalek, Alfie, Smith, Obrian are very capable. I think we're pretty stacked for Pk'ing forwards.

Grant leading the league with 4 shortys.
O'Brien played great on the PK last season
Smith played PK
Greening as well
Regin could play PK as well
Neil plays PK too
And Michalek

Is that enough forwards for 2 positions?

Top 6 pk minutes/game from last season

Condra
Winchester
Smith
Daugavins
O'brien
Michalek

Winchester is gone so that is a whole there but maybe they will try Turris on the PK a bit? Anyway PK will hopefully improve from last year where they finished 20th in the league at 81.7%

Funny thing was that Pk was top 10 on the road and 2nd last at home.

I dont think the Org will use Daugavins too much at all. Wouldnt be surprised if he's dealt for like a 6th to some team that has penalty killing trouble early.

Add Silfverberg on the PK with a guy like Zack Smith.

I'm clearly not saying Filly > Weir, I'm just saying you can't use 8 games and come to any conclusion of any kind.

You start making decisions like that on small sample sizes, and what you end up with is a guy like Fernando Pisani on a 4 year $10 mil contract.
My comments about PW weren't based just on 8 NHL games.

PW has been ready for the NHL from a skill perspective for over a year, he just lacked the body to go with the skill.

Now that he has filled out a little, he is definitely ready.

Sooner or later people are going to appreciate there is no one size fits all approach to player development, simply because no two players are alike thus making attempts at comparatives meaningless.

FYI using Pisani as an example ignores the fact he had significant health issues (ulcerative colitis), which was finally diagnosed the season following the contract signing.

Why waste Latendresse on the third line? We already know what Greening contributes as a top 6 on the team, so IMO, you at least try Latendresse in the top 6, and if he doesn't cut it, swap in Greening.

Because in a shortened season chemistry is going to be more important. If we start the season 3-7 because Latendresse doesn't find chemistry on the top line we are pretty much out the playoffs, so I'd rather go with the proven commodity.

I think MacLean just keeps Hoffman hidden underneath the bench out of sight of any officials, and then once Regin separates his shoulder Mac can get sneaky, do a super-secret uniform switch, and send Hoff out wearing Reeg's jersey in the 3rd period.

But you think people can will be able to not notice the huge difference in skill level dropping from Regin to Hoffman?

Unless I'm mistaken, doesn't Hoffman man the point for Bingo on occasion?

The guy has a wicked shot, and I'm pretty sure I recall him and Weircioch on the point...

EDIT:

OOPS! I initially had Hoffman in for Condra!

I still think that it's a possibility, but I think Condra gets the first crack at it.

One argument a little over a month back when Lehner was just on fire, (and Bish was struggling abit) was that when the NHL resumes mid year, Andy will have not played a meaningful game in fooorever (Said like the kid from Sandlot). So people said with Andy's probably rust, Lehner might be our best option for winning. You have to think that (despite the Cowen disaster) with the short season and the alfie situation, that the team brass will want to push for the playoffs (for Alfie and for the playoff gates $).

Anyways, Bishop seems to have found his game. Let Lehner keep rolling in the A. If it's a 48 or 52 game season, its going to be jam packed. As good as a number 1 as Andy is, this is a year when you need your Rhodes-Tugnutt type duo. My hope would be that say its 48 games packed into 3.5 months, that Andy would get 28 while Bish would get his 20, keeping him from hitting UFA in the summer
