Who are the hardest hitters and most frequent hitters/checkers of the top few round prospects in the 2013 draft?

The last few times they went that route we ended up with the Dan Paille's and Eric Rasmussens so skill with a pair to not be afraid of the dirty areas is better

Soft skilled players like Zagrapan and Persson were bigger misses what's your point?

I'm just saying that an all around player, someone with some physicality and skill would be better than a one-trick pony

If Lindy Ruff is here, Nichushkin would be a horrible choice. A supremely talented player with low hockey sense? Yeah...Ruff would probably not play him ever.

Still digging Hartman as a possible 2nd round look -- good skill, high energy, plenty of sand. The downside is of course that he's a bit of a smurf. (See a couple pages back for more talk about Hartman).

Late 1st. We won't be lucky enough to have a decent 2nd round pick with the lottery

I'm with you, Chain. He's 5'10'', 182, but he does play bigger than that, and the Sabres could use a guy with the attributes you mentioned. I also like that he seems to seek out the other team's top players and takes the physicality to them. He seems fearless. I wouldn't want him in the 1st, but they could certainly do worse in the 2nd round. I envision him playing on Girgensons' wing, as that would be two pains in the arse to play against.

If the season is cancelled, there's a lottery and Buffalo gets a late-1st rounder, they'll have an early-2nd rounder. The draft will snake a la fantasy football drafts, just as it did in the post-lockout draft.

I know often times way too much is placed on WJC performance's, but man am I having a hard time not giving Drouin serious consideration at #1 right now.

Well in that case, I'm sure we'll get the 1st round pick right where there's a drop off and our 2nd will be too late to grab Hartman...or something like that...we have to get screwed in some way, right?

Yep. Something like #13 and #48 sounds about right.

Marek Zagrapan, come on down! Kopitar and Staal are both gone right before you!

Ugh, don't remind me. Especially since Darcy coveted Staal, and the Rags jumped up ahead of us to draft him. I firmly believe that experience was in mind when Regier traded up one spot to get Myers; he wasn't going to allow history to repeat itself.

He's got the sort of jam and skill that a guy like Callahan brings for the Rangers. Pop that on the wing with some skill guys and he'll likely compliment nicely. Pop that on the wing with checking guys and get some offense and the usual physicality/chippiness. The Sabres still need more jam, more guys who will do whatever is necessary to win.

Imagine:

Foligno-Girgensons-Hartman

Yeah...would not want to play against that line

I know most of the people on this board really like American players, so I am recommending Povorozniouk on Kingston. He is tearing it up since getting traded from Saginaw. I don't think he was even projected to get drafted, but he might now that he is putting up a point a game on Kujawinski's line. He has slick hands, a great shot, excellant vision and is very fast. He is impressive for a 17 year old. You might be able to get him in the 5th round or later.

I really want Adam Erne on this team. Hopefully the lottery helps us out.

What are about Darnell Nurse? He has a crazy intimidation factor. I've never seen him play outside of a few highlights though.

does anyone else find Elias Lindholm to be very similar to Cody Hodgson? I have only seen him twice and thought they looked very similar, Lindholm being a better skater. In a video clip I saw I though he looked like Claude Giroux..

Off-hand...Erne, Hartman, Dano finish their checks and can contribute in each zone. I'll probably watch some OHL soon to get some perspective on Nurse vs Zadorov and how physical/defensive they are.

I like Nichushkin's skating and frame, but doesn't he have a KHL deal -- I wanna say with 3-4 years left -- that will scare teams away? Isn't that why Slepyshev went undrafted in 2012 because he said something like he wasn't coming over to NA until he was ready, possibly as late as 22 or 23?

Lindholm's skating is certainly ahead of Hodgson's though. He does have some flashiness to him with a great motor. I tend to favor prospects with good skill, skating and compete levels, so obviously I like him, but I wouldn't put him ahead of Barkov, Jones or MacKinnon.

Also, the new CBA will alter the draft lottery to include all non-playoff teams.

He has three years - his deal expires 4/30/2015.

Well, there's that and the fact that he didn't attend the combine because he had exams.
Apparently teams were just ignorant to that and thought that he had no interest.

Hopefully we get a decent draft position. I really like Adam Erne as a prototypical Buffalo player.
