Nah it's not that bad, there's no sure fire #1 guy, but Coburn, Timonen, Meszaros and Grossman is a solid top 6, and if Schenn has some sort of resurgence(which I doubt) that's another guy you can slot into a pretty decent top 4.

BTW, Stralman was probably our 4th best D-man in last year's playoffs. Probably better than Del Zotto.

It goes way beyond "more often".

Stu Bickel had a game in the playoffs where he logged 3:24 TOI.....the game in question went to 3 overtimes

Not to mention that you are going to gas those other defensemen if you go deep into the playoffs. It's not like pitching where you can shorten your rotation from 5 to 4 in the playoffs.

Exactly, the Rangers had 4 defenseman log over 40 mintues in that game.

In comparison, the Caps, who were able to roll 3 pairs, only had 1 go over 40 minutes and he barely made it [didn't hit 41] compared to Del Zotto, Girardi, Staal, and McDonagh who all cleared it by quite a bit [43+, 44+, 49+, and 53+ () respectively]

Then everyone wanted to know why we suddenly couldn't play defense against New Jersey. Well, having 6 of them would do wonders, I think.

I know the poll is about our current rosters, but isn't it possible that the Rangers will trade for a #6 D-man? I mean, it's not a #1 D-man. A Western Conference team can't trade a #6 D-man for a mid round draft pick?

Edit: NOT a #1 D-man.

The season was supposedly gonna start 4 months ago. Shouldn't they have done this already?

I'll give you this though, if Sauer were to come back the Rangers are #1 easily.

Rangers board makes it sound like Sauer is done for the season.

5 man collapse blocking shots and all world Lundqvist in net bloat NYR's defensive stats. They are middle of the pack for me.

They're good, but too young to put enough faith in voting them as the top of the league.

They had 5 men collapsing blocking shots and all world Lundqvist in net for years now and it wasn't until McDonagh's meteoric rise and even Del Zotto's big time defensive improvement that they were one of the best Ds in the league. I can understand not #1, or even top 5. But middle of the pack? I doubt many people will agree with you.

You should avoid talking about the Rangers. You have proven over and over again that you don't like the team and the players, but most importantly, you don't know **** about them.

Del Zotto was on our third pair. Stralman was on our second. Drrrrr

It's really not that funny.

Tyutin-Nikitin
Wisniewski-Johnson
Erixon-Murray

Ok, not #1 obviously but that's a defense that's in the top half of the league imo. Their problem isn't defense. It wasn't even defense last year. They have no scoring depth and lousy goaltending, that's their problem.

So blocking shots is a bad thing for a defenseman?

Blues have great young defenceman that will only improve by the season. Great depth, yet young.

I just cant call NYR's defense number one due to the system they use. It is really effective on some teams but many times it just does not work out and they have to rely on Lundqvist too many times. I have always said that the day the Rangers do not have to rely on Henrik to win games they will be one of the best teams over the last decade. But they are sure as hell not 'just middle of the pack' as someone else said.
