Name a city you were surprised to see another fan of the NHL

Last month when I was driving back home from Orlando, Florida I spent the night in a town called Lima, Ohio which is about 2 hours from Cincinnati. Anyway that night I was having dinner at an Olive Garden and as I was walking to where my table was I happen to see someone wearing a Jeff Carter Columbus Blue Jackets jersey. I thought to myself what are the odd's off seeing another NHL fan in a small city like that, because Columbus is a fair distance from Lima and their local Walmart store doesn't sell anything Blue Jackets related. All they had was Ohio State, Cincinnati Reds and Cincinnati Bengals merchandise for sale. So has anyone ever been in a small town and was surprised to see another NHL fan?

I was in Quito, Ecuador and there was a Canuck Hockey Bar. That was pretty random I thought

Well, i know there is at least one NHL-fan in the Netherlands. What that tells us is we should'nt be surprised that the greatest game on earth sometimes finds its ways to someone living in any hockey neverland.

Seriously though, when I was in Italy this summer, I was happily surprised to see at least 10 locals throughout the trip wearing NHL merch. Ended up talking to 2 of them, both were NHL fans.

Found a guy wearing a Penguins jersey in Andorra la Vella. That was definitely unexpected.

It's not a small city somewhere in the sticks or a foreign country, but when I was stationed at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, MS I ran into a Sabres fan. I suppose that's not odd or strange...but after 6 weeks of basic training and then another month of not being able to wear civilian clothes (Tech. School lasted 6 months for me) it was a nice surprise to see a fellow NHL fan...even if it was a Sabres fan... ; ) Although I think he was even more surprised to see a Canucks fan.

You were surprised to see someone in Ohio wearing a Blue Jackets jersey? What are the odds!?

And jerseys are also sold online, you know.

At the college I go to near Philly, one of my friends is a Coyotes/Portland Pirates fan. He's from New Jersey. Found that a little strange

I was on a walking tour of Alaska a few winters ago and I went into Santa's Village in a town called North Pole (great ice sculpting fair had happened) and when I walked into the store I saw a guy wearing 67's jersey.

I talked to him and it turned we had a mutual friend.

I also met a guy in Tokyo who was wearing a Team Canada Olympics Jersey a long time ago but he didn't really follow hockey, he just thought it was a "cool shirt".

During the 2011-2012 school year, I saw this kid at the eating commons wear a TB Lightning jersey all the time.

My university is in a pretty rural part of eastern PA.

Not sure if this really counts as a city, lol, but I did the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu two years ago and met a Swiss Blackhawks fan. Pretty neat, I thought.

In England I was standing in line at Stonehenge to pay for admission and noticed a guy a few feet ahead of me in line wearing a Leafs hat. I pointed it out to a couple buddies of mine and on the count of three we all yelled "LEAFS SUCK!" at the top of our lungs (even though they're both Leafs' fans ).

When he turned around, we just casually stood there with our hands in our pockets and talked about Stonehenge, pretending nothing had happened.

Finland

Most just watch Finnish league or International hockey. You never see NHL jerseys in public or such. Not so many care about NHL to be considered a fan

Some friends and I visited mutual friends in Calgary once. Got to see the Flames play the Panthers. Most people in the arena seemed to be surprised to see five fans in Lightning jerseys there. We stood at the glass during warm-ups and a few of the Panthers players looked a little startled, too.

Slightly OT due to the sport... Was watching the summer Olympics broadcast from London and saw a guy in the crowd wearing a Tampa Bay Rays hat. Wasn't expecting that.

I don't remember the name of the place, it was really small but when I was driving with a couple friends to California a few years ago we stopped to get gas somewhere in Nevada and you had to pay inside, the attendent was wearing a Dallas Stars jersey. He was a Dallas fan who grew up in Minnesota and somehow was living in some small town in Nevada working as a gas station attendent.

I went to Vegas for Christmas and went to a sports store looking for some memorabilia. One of the guys working the counter hasn't heard of the Avalanche.
