This makes no sense, especially considering over half of the teams in the league make the playoffs as is.
It makes sense from a financial standpoint as it means that more teams will get to benefit from the extra playoff revenue. I don't necessarily like what it means to the sport itself but it's a move I can definitely understand in a league where teams are losing money.
to me, that says the owners care less about the product they put on the ice and are concerned with getting a better chance at making the playoffs for that additional revenue.
While I think it is good to have teams get rest, I think hockey is better when it is played consistently throughout the playoffs - a bye week is a turnoff for me personally.

Agree. But there is also talk that 7 teams make the playoffs and the next 4 have a play in for the 8th spot. At least both sides have discussed it.
IMO, if there are 2 more teams from each conference added to the playoffs, It's a pre-cursor to expansion next season. Hello Toronto and Seattle. Quebec City will be the new home of the Coyotes by then.
