Honestly, trading Thronton, Marleau, Clowe and Havlatt would save them 3 years on a rebuild.

Add that to Couture, Pavelski, Burns, Demers and they'd be a damn good looking younger team.
Too late now. Best timing would have been right before the 2012 draft to load up on 2012 and 2013 players. The lockout makes these 2 drafts much easier to build around, especially 2012 since all the players basically get a free development year. Had the sharks traded in Thornton, Marleau, Boyle, Niemi, Clowe and Havlat for 4-5 1st rounders and a bunch of 2nds and near ready prospects in these 2 drafts they'd be set.

Yeah, because the Sharks are in a position to add cap.

I like Clutterbuck, but if we're giving up assets it would have to be for a #3C, not wing.

Im telling you the sharks are not rebuilding. They might move Boyle but Thornton and Marleau have no movement clauses and they will retire as sharks. They are set up there and would not leave. They are well liked in the community.

I doubt the Wild would trade him unless someone blew Fletcher's socks off.

I could see the Wild packaging him with someone like Haula for a d-man if it looks like we need another after the season.

Clutter's salary won't be an issue. Wild have a lot of money coming off the books within the next two years. I think we keep him not only because he's a fan favorite, but because Bulmer, who we were hoping would be Cal's replacement, hasn't progressed as much as we'd hoped.

Makes sense if you also post stuff that is completely wrong like Boyle somehow getting a lot worse or Thornton and Marleau not going to be good soon.

If theres no season this year , the next time we have play-offs he (Boyle) will be what 39 or something. Your paying each of them approximately 7 million per season and their ability to bring you a cup seems to be diminishing. A high pick and a good prospect for each and the sharks would be restacked to be a contender. Let them all retire there and get used to mediocrity. I'm a habs fan and you may laugh at this but our teams are very similar that way. Some guys think were only a player or two from going all the way. I think it will mediocrity for us that way to but we have a chance to restack as well.

Joe Thornton, Patrick Marleau, and Dan Boyle for the 2013 1st overall, 2nd overall, and 3rd overall pick. It's so simple!

I'm sorry, but I stopped taking you seriously when you said Boyle wasn't a playoff performer and tried to justify it with a 5 game sample size against the best defense in the league.

It will be tight, but the Wild can likely fit all of those players in, even if they need to do some minor roster shuffling.

Clutterbuck's next contract is likely to come in just over $2m, give or take. Brodziak just signed a a 3 year deal at $2.83 per and Clutter isn't coming near that point with this team.

As for what it would take for Clutterbuck in a trade, I really don't see the Wild moving him unless they're adding to him with a higher valued prospect and/or a high 2013 draft pick in order to acquire a legit top 4 defenseman.
2M is a replacement player. Cal would get 4 million plus on the open market. Look at what Prust got, he's a much crappier version of clutterbuck.

I agree he'll get a lot, but we can't really use comparables anymore considering the salary cap will probably be lowered. Not to mention Prust was a UFA and Clutterbuck will still be an RFA.

I'd love to get Clutterbuck in a flaming C. He reminds me so much of Glencross. The type of guy who no one outside your market really appreciates, but who helps your club in so many ways.

Based on this thread and others, I think pretty much everyone(atleast around HFBoards) appreciates what he does in his role. Never heard anyone say "that guys a bum" or "I would never want him". Most people seem to be interested in acquiring him.

The majority of Wild fans on here don't seem to have a problem with trading Clutter but I really hope we resign him.

Could go either way, I think Larsson (or Bulmer in a year) could do a reasonable job of what Clutterbuck does. If they can get a decent top 4 D in return, the value of Larsson + Random D may be higher than Clutterbuck + Falk or whomever current 7 is that would get sent down.
