Should be an assist to Yakupov on the first Russian goal.

Bit of a gaffe between Yakupov and his team mate results in a shorthanded goal to the Swiss.
Swiss captain Christoph Bertschy is flying tonight.

Yakupov gets caught from behind on a short handed breakaway and never gets a shot away.

Yakupov has shown me in this tourney that if he is going to be an NHLer when the lockout ends, we need to shelter his minutes

Which wouldn't a big deal if Horcoff & the vets didn't need sheltering themselves. But seriously, what I've seen from Yakupov is that he is always trying to do things too fast (probably not necessary at the WJC) and probably slightly too much as well. He will need to adjust his game similar to how Hall had to stop trying to do everything at full speed all the time, but even more so. I'd hope people won't be calling for trade after 10 games on here, but they already are, so whatever. What he will have going for him is the one-timer (on the PP mostly at first I imagine), which is already very NHL-level.

Great game. The Swiss know how to play hockey.
Makes you wonder how the Germans can be so bad.

2-2 at the end of the second.
Massive 45 second 5 on 3 to start the third for the Swiss.

Ten minutes left in the third and the Swiss take a 3-2 lead.

Switzerland is currently making Russia super nervous, up 3-2 with only 9 mins left

Now is the time for Yakupov to show his best

Too bad. The Russians tie it up on the PP with 1:30 left.
They don't deserve to win this game.

Yakupov's game is simply too yakupov oriented. When that changes he will add even more to his skillset. Until then he tries to take on 3 or 4 players every single time.

Not enough shootout skills from the Swiss. They got killed in shoot outs this tourney.

Russia wins. Yakupov lives on to have a chance to redeem himself this tourny.

Maybe we should've picked Grigorenko first overall.

He reminded me of Hall during his 8 game goalless drought last season. It was during that time that Hall was just a turn over machine and players were making youtube at his expense(with big hits). Then Hall scores that hat trick against Chicago and he was a different player. He simplified his game and didn't seem to be thinking as much out there.

It's funny how it's when a player is struggling, that's when they decide they have to do it all themselves. That was Yakupov today. He wanted to be the hero so bad and it was counter productive. I kinda feel sorry for him. Go look at the GDT on the main board. It's overflowing with comments about how useless he is. Yakupov knows that an entire country is saying that about him right now. I'm sure it was on his mind during every shift and he was thinking "if I could just score the big goal...."

Yakupov is really struggling out there, it's hard to watch. However, It's kind of annoying to hear the announcers bring it up every 2 seconds and to see the camera on him constantly, give the kid a freaking break already. The pressure has really gotten to Yak, it's obvious in his body language. He hardly even celebrated when they won.
I thought that Grigorenko was really good for them, he seemed to be the only one creating offense for Russia. If they play this way against Sweden, it's going to be lights out for them.

Or maybe "I wish there wasn't a lockout because I'd be playing for the Oilers instead of satisfying these emo/fickle fans"

No kidding. Ferraro was really fueling the Yakupov hate fest. I don't believe he actually hates Yakupov but he wasn't doing the kid any favors. One thing that I've noticed about hockey fans is that they love when someone outside of the player that went 1st overall is the best player from the draft. Duchene supposed to be better than Tavares for a while there. Seguin is better than Hall even though his ppg average is lower and his goal scoring is significantly lower despite playing about 1 shift less a game with a Selke winner as his center and a Norris winner on the back end. Landeskog hits, blocks shots and brings tons of leadership so that's enough to go 1st overall over RNH in some people's eyes.

...and now people just love that Yakupov is struggling and they will use this 2 week tournament against him until he gets to the NHL.

It looks like he's putting way too much pressure on himself and trying to do everything out there. You can see the skill and effort but the burden of a leadership role appears to be too much for him. It's alright, though. He won't be put in such a difficult spot here and he will have plenty of talented teammates to rely on.
