Maybe I shouldn't be looking too far ahead, but I'm watching Germany/Slovakia on TSN right now (replay) and after having watched Germany/USA and Germany/Canada, I really like 2014 eligible forward Leon Draisaitl. He's got some sweet hands and passing ability, and has put up solid #s for Prince Albert in the WHL this season. He's also a reasonable size at 6'1, 205.

Come on DW, you know how much you like drafting Germans. Konrad needs a compatriot in the pipeline.

Finally, DW's penchance for drafting Germans can come in handy.

Ferraro was practically drooling over the kid during the Canada game. I've seen him live earlier this year and I remember being asked to keep an eye on him. I didn't notice anything too special during the game, he made a few nice passes (though both were a bit high risk) but was relatively quiet. What stood out to me though was his play during the warmups--he was picking pucks out of the net, and hitting sticks on the fly--even when they weren't paying attention. That being said I totally agree, the World Juniors have opened my eyes to this player--he's such a gifted player and certainly one to watch going forward.

Both Hertl and Jaskin were outstanding (again) for the Czechs today with Hertl scoring the OT goal.

And, with the US spanking Slovakia, the US will face the Czech Republic in the QF at 4am EST on Wednesday. Should be a good game.

I wonder if there's any way for the Sharks to trade for Jaskin. He and Hertl are amazing together.

Don't worry, Thornton will be a decent enough linemate.

I think he could develop a great chemistry with Havlát, too.

On the late 4 on 3 PP, the US used Kuraly-Galchenyuk-Jones-Murphy. Kuraly was probably only out there because he's so good at faceoffs but it's cool to see they would put him out with 3 high end guys like that.

Yeah, actually I think he'd fit well with Havlat. It's a good reason to keep Havlat around too, to help a Czech kid figure out NA.

Hertl has been awesome everytime I've seen him.. I think your management made the right choice by picking him.

We trashed Coyle pretty hard too until we realized "holy crap, those scouts do seem to know a thing or two" which is why I refrained from having an opinion this time around.

The question is who will be better, Hertl or Coyle

From what I've seen of him in both the WJC as well as some games with Slavia he looks like he's the kind of player that can make his linemates better - he seems able to find 'chemistry'/a way to contribute regardless of who he plays with.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how he does once he decides to come to North America.

Hertl's got higher upside.

Also, just your friendly reminder that I was the first person to say "holy **** guys, Hertl's awesome too" in the draft thread right after the pick.

It's hard to compare the two, I think Coyle is a bit more physical and would be more what I'd classify as a power forward by the way he plays around the net, but his passing skills aren't where Hertl's are. I think their long term success just depends on how well their skillsets lend to the future coaching styles of the teams they land on and what type of opportunities arise. Coyle could end up playing the wing of say like Granlund and Parise for his career, and easily bat in 30+ goals a season by the way he patrols the front of the net. It's all situational. I think though, and this changes of course, but as it stands, I like Hertl's game a bit more for what San Jose currently tries to do on the offensive side of things. He's a better long term fit.

Coyle is as much of a powerforward as Clowe is. Hey, I'll just stand behind the net or by the boards and pass the puck around. Neither play like real powerforwards.

In today's NHL, if you are a forward and you are big = powerforward. Stupid.

Agreed. Taking abuse around the net does not make you a powerforward. Otherwise we'd have two on our hands with Marleau and Pavelski.

A true powerforward drives the net no matter who's in the way. Wins board battles easily. Makes smart big hits. Plays with an edge. But really it's driving the net that define a power forward for me, and neither Coyle nor Clowe are that.

Hertl seems to be decent, just saved a goal...not bad.

Hertl had some physical moments, but Kuraly (and Gibson, Gaudreau et al) shut out Czechs 7-0.

Will face Canada Thursday morning 1am PT.

Hertl was good again today even w/o producing anything. He was one of the best forwards game in and game out in the tournament.

I really hope his agent and DW find a way to bring him to NA next season.

So is Kuraly's upside something like Torrey Mitchell?

I just love the way he approaches things on the defensive side of things.

Re Coyle and Powerforward discussion:

I hadn't seen much of Coyle in previous years, so perhaps that was the case, but everything he's displayed in Houston so far this season leads me to believe he's not only going to fill that role, but is doing quite well at it at the AHL level. The thing I like about him, is he's playing a full 'power' game (Jux mentioned something of the effect in his personal description) on all sides of the ice.
