This still doesn't answer why they have him on Kuraly's wing. At the very least, have Gally centre the line and carry the play rather than have him rely on Kuraly's lack of skill.

They just play very different styles. Really can't understand how Housely doesn't see this. It's making eveyone on the line and the coach look bad.

After this WJC...Galchenyuk will get Canadian citizenship to play for Canada one day (a big **** You to Housley!!).

This thread is so weird! Are we all USA fans now??

People hate Housley more than they hated Mario Tremblay

Let's be positive, Galchenyuk being misused is good for Canada and it reduce his chance to have a big injury! Not having success in the WJC will not hurt his NHL career.

The tournament would have been more fun for us prospects maniacs but it's really no big deal in the grand scheme.

Stayed up for USA/CZE.... not even worth it. Gally barely played, and when he did he normally passed it to his teammates who did nothing with it(-Barber, once). I really wish he shot it on that 3 on 1, Kuraly and Barber aren't the greatest shooters.

No. Because if anyone here was actually a fan they would realize that what matters for the team is more important than what happens for one player.

You guys are seriously sick in the heads.

But you said it yourself. We are not a fan of the team. We are a fan of the player and his progression. Hence the comments. And we will see if Gally's use will pay off in the medal rounds. I doubt it but maybe it will. Not the first time that we will condemn a coach or an organization at the WJC and have to retract because they suddenly get hot and win everything. This is the WJC we're talking about here....where most comments from everybody INCLUDING scouts and such are directed towards the players themselves and no team in particular. In the end, we do have a team and all wish Canada wins and somehow, don't wish for this or that player to get more icetime unless Canada loses and THEN we will go back at bashing the coach and such if this or that player wasn't used properly.

I finally got why Housley is so hesitant of playing Galchenyuk after all these games; Kuraly.

Man, that guy is a comedy on ice. After he's been making silly plays all tournament, he gets pouty and starts throwing a fit 'cause he got pwned real good by a czech.

There's definitely no chemistry between him and his linemates. I even caught a sequence where Gally was carrying the puck in the zone and Kuraly created and offside and he pointed infront of him with his stick looking at Galchenyuk in an act of frustration.

And then when he entered the zone with the puck, he creates a silly turnover by trying a semi spinorama that resulted on him falling on his belly while his line was ready for a change.

I have absolutely no problem criticizing a player when he doesn't play well, but you can hardly say anything wrong about Gally this tournament, maybe besides the game vs Slovakia. His ice time is not only limited, but the ice time he gets is mediocre. Second PP wave, no 5 on 3's, so you can't really say that Gally has a PP specialist role on the team and moderated 5 on 5 against weaker competition. Only time when Galchenyuk shines 5 on 5 is when he, for some odd reason, has the puck on his blade in the neutral zone and enters the zone with it.

He pulls off playing wing in Sarnia 'cause Sarault is a good playmaker too, but none of his linemates in the USA squad are able to get him the puck.

Sorry but it can't be that simple. They have 13 forwards so if they would think so, Kuraly would be the 13th forward. You could then put Gally at center and play whoever plays that 13th forward role right now. Or if you hate Gally that much at center, put Trocheck there instead. No, Housely doesn't hate Kuraly 'cause he moves his little feet and seems to be doing the "little things"....some coaches like that.

??????

Why would we be fans of Team USA???

I, as well as most Habs fans, cheer for Team Canada.

We care about Galchenyuk on Team USA and Galchenyuk only.

The main board has plenty of Americans who are obviously and understandably invested solely in Team USA's success.

That's kind of odd. I thought coaches would like players doing the "little things" if they appear effective out on the ice. By the sound of it, all Kuraly accomplishes is running a little time off the clock while blundering around.

Housely might be all sorts of things and clearly not one of my favorites BY FAR.....but if he'd be detrimental, he'd be the 13th forward. He sucks offensively, that Housley surely sees that....but he might not cost that much his team. He does some good things in his zone so I guess that's enough for Housley.

What little things? Creating turnovers all game long and not being able to make a pass to anyone except the board? The only reason he's not the 13th forward is 'cause he's like 12th forward lol

What would the reason why Housley keeps using him? Kuraly has some nasty pictures that Housley wouldn't want to see on the Net? And not sure about your comment...but there are 13 forwards on that team. So why can't he 13th?

Hey I found something.....Kuraly has the best FO% today.

Normally I would disagree and argue that the actions of his coach make sense in regards to sitting him during a blowout, but I've watched every US game and know this is not the case. Somehow he has fallen out of favor with Housley. It seemed Housley was only ever using him as a PP specialist for most of the tourney imo anyways. This is just insulting on so many levels.

Somehow his 8 points in 5 games has earned him a trip to the doghouse. Mind blowing. Phil will never get a full-time gig in the NHL.

Housley isn't blind and watch for Gally to be on a line with his summer linemates again in the Semi finals and medal round. That being the first line and first PP otherwise the USA-Canada game won't have the combativeness they usually have. With the offence Canada has to draw on,it should be entertaining no matter what line Gally is on.

No kidding. That was my point.

It is a team sport, not some development tournament for Galchenyuk. Everything seems to everyone else's fault.

Kuraly sucks. Coach sucks. Barber sucks. Trotchek sucks.

Who cares about how much icetime Gally gets when the USA wins 7-0? Who cares who Gally's linemates are when he leads the team in points?

Karuly is so bad that he fed a beauty behind the back pass that Galchenyuk couldn't finish. The PP mismanagment is so bad that Gaudreau potted a hattrick on Gally's backdoor position.

Just enjoy the damn tournament and Gally like a normal person. Hey guys, that move to split the D make space and dish it to Barber was pretty sick hey?

This tournament is not about Galchenyuk, it never was, it never will be. So when you look at it through this lens it leads to complete fallacy.

Much better game from Galchenyuk. Still has some work to do, kind of hard to when your getting 10 minutes of ice time though. He looked far more engaged today. Carried the puck better, moved quicker, and seemed more interesting in playing the full length of the ice. I found it interesting how his best plays, whether that be scoring chances, or defensive plays, were in the centre of the ice. Maybe a full change of linemates isn't required to get him going, just a simple change of roles. Galchenyuk, up until today, looked confined to one side of the ice. In Sarnia, Sarault and Boucher let Galchenyuk do what he wants and just get open. Maybe that's all Karuly and Barber need to do. I mean how times have Galchenyuk, Kuraly, and Barber bumped into each other, or have been in the same place in the offensive zone at the same time.

On a side note, the main boards are a war zone right now. Galchenyuk this, Galchenyuk that. Someone was actually trying to say that Galchenyuk plays like Kessel . Another one was trying to say that Galchenyuk is soft and streaky. Sure, Galchenyuk has a bad game every now and then, it doesn't make him streaky. It makes him human. You know, sometimes I wonder if people actually watch the player play before they post.

Yet, everybody does it the same. If Canada wins and Hamilton sucks, Bruins fans would come up more about how Hamilton is clearly not ready than depressed because US lost. Same applies for every NHL fanbase. But while doing it, we have enough room to cheer for a team which is what we're doing for Canada. And Kuraly one nice pass doesn't make it for Kuraly's 35 others that he missed or couldn't convert. It is a team sport, but it's also a way to analyse future prospects for the scouts. A way to analyse already owned prospects for NHL teams. A way to see who else is out there that could your pro team. And it's all about cheering for your home country at the same time. Seems to me that it also becomes "individual" when we are talking about top players. Leafs recognizes Biggs limitations....they are probably not whining about his icetime. I guess we would be acknowledging Hudon's limitations, hence we "probably" ( I stress probably) not whining about him not getting some PP#1 icetime. And so on. Galchenyuk came here as one of the guys to watch by every expert out there. Reason why there's some emphasis on him.

I don't see it as the same. Go look at the USA-Czech thread on the main board for reference.

Habs fans are basically crying because their top prospect isn't getting used to their 'standards.'

For every Habs fan out there, you will find non-Habs fans that are either exactly doing the same....or totally criticizing him. So sorry, not solely about Habs fans.

And frankly, it has nothing to do with OUR standards. McKenzie presented him prior to this tournament as a player to watch. Everybody outside of Habsland thought he'd be in direct relation with his team's success or not. Now, we do in Habsland take it to another level so imagine how we'd see it after the non-habs land has done it themselves.

Habs fans are pretty quiet on the Collberg front though.....True that he might be because we didn't see a lot of Sweden games. And I also know that we're already doing it for Collberg as far as his pro team is concerned.....But as a Habs fan 1st...we are seeing it as a progression type of event. We couldn't care less about what happens to USA, like we couldn't care less about what happen to Hamilton. I mean, who here will still hope Hamilton does great the day our farm team is in Laval? But I will choose to believe that most people are also able to see it as a team sport and acknowledge other things than our own prospects.

And I am one of them Mostly because I just can't resist.

Anyways, if there's another player on Team USA that is legitimately in the same position as Galchenyuk, I haven't seen or heard of him. And since the Habs fanbase is very passionate, you get the end result of many venting for many to see.

For myself, I'll probably post on the main boards a little less: seems like many have turned their brains off regarding Gally from overexposure.

They're both Leafs fans (based on the posts I've seen from them elsewhere). (I'm also not bashing them. Being Leafs fans probably does have a bearing on their outlook.)

People would be all over US if Trouba wasn't used properly. Nobody can be on the US management for Miller as he gets his icetime. And nobody had a chance to get on the US for Grimaldi as he was totally invisible way more than Gally and has not a lot of points to show for on top. And was back playing today. Nobody is on the same boat actually. As Yakupov is blamed for his poor play because....he plays poorly. Not because he's misused.

I totally agree with you Buddhasmoka1 people on this board are way to enamore by Galchenyuk and it cloud the judgment of posters and become haters of gally's teamates and coach. I will just start to say I am very glad that Galchenyuk has a great tournament so far point wise and I want to defends Phil Housley coaching in this tournament. Galchenyuk been a sure value in this tournament scoring at least one point per game but Housley other assets (aside Trouba) have not been producing as much at the start of the tournament. What do you do then? You invest all confidence on your sure shot value or you try to bolster the confidence of the team as a whole by playing them against good competition but not top 3 teams aka Canada Sweden and Russia. My analysis is that Galchenyuk had plenty of ice time against Canada and Russia and it wasn't enough to win those game. USA needs production from more players to win the tournament and for that they need confidence that is why Housley played is other players and it worked.I would say he's a good coach because you need a team to win a tournament not just one good player.

These boards are quite pointless, every team fan base just tries to pimp their prospects. Very little objectivity.

If Yakupov was playing 10 minutes a game, Oilers fans would be just as outraged and ripping the Russian coach.

And again, I could not give 2 flying ****s what other fans of other teams think. The number of Hab haters around here is extremely high.

As for Sarnia, they were bad to start the year. That can't be denied. But they put it together, in part because Galchenyuk rounded into top form.
