Imagine your about to pick your first player for your team, and you have to pick between Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and OEL.Which one of these players do you choose?
I voted RNH, but I change my mind. I think the Rangers could use another defenseman.
The premise of this poll is which of these two guys would you choose to *start* your team with in a fantasy draft. You wouldn't be adding either of them to your existing team.
Personally, I choose Nugent-Hopkins. I think successful teams are best built around an elite centerman. I like Ekman-Larsson a lot, but people are getting a little too enamored with him in my opinion.
I think OEL is gonna be a beast, but to take a defencemen over RNH they'd have to be a Pietrangelo type defencemen, and I don't think OEL is there. No knock on Ekman Larson though, 30 teams in the league would love to have him.
When comparing elite players I don't think going purely off position is fair. I'd pick RNH because I think he'll become one of the top 10 players in the league.
RNH. I've watched the Flames for too long without a real #1 center. If I had the chance to build a team from scratch, center would be the first position I would choose.
RNH for me. Much safer choice IMO, and I think he has higher upside too.
Also this (except replace "Flames" with "Leafs"):

Exhibit A as to how hockey doesn't matter on ESPN:
Last night an ESPN program was discussing how the Detroit Pistons needed a hero citing the heroes on the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions and no mention of the Detroit Red Wings. All this despite the Red Wings probably being the most succesful team in Detroit right now.
On the Habs, give me OEL. He could be phenomenal with Subban in the future with possibly Beaulieu and Tinordi on the second pairing. On my sharks, I'd like RNH. Can never go wrong with centre depth, especially with Couture able to play wing, and Joe and Marleau starting to age. RNH and Hertl as one - two punch with Couture and Pavelski on Nuge's wing.........
