If meetings go sour tonight, then sure. That said, I don't see why they would go sour this close to the finish line.

That'd be great for the Rangers.

Much prefer Gaborik @ 6m cap hit than the 8m Perry will probably get.

If people keep saying that the only disagreement they are having is of pensions, then did they come to an agreement on the cap?

They haven't, can't recall anyone saying they have. Simply that the main focus for tonight is pensions.

I can very much see that happening, too. His playing style has evolved a lot since his Minnesota days, so he doesn't need his speed quite like he used to.

Then again, I can also see him getting traded and then Sather going after Perry or another crazy signing.

This is all assuming the cap stays at the 64-65 mil range.

James Mirtle @mirtle
Looks like the teams put about $1-million each into the pension plan annually under the old agreement. Unclear how much more being asked for

Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
Players' executive board and negotiating committee began conf call at 6 pm ET to update things....

Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
They would have another call later tonight most likely after meeting with NHL to determine disclaimer decision

Agreed. Much like Nash, Perry fits our playing style well, but I'm not sure his production (whether that be greater or lower than Gaborik's) and style are worth the amount he'll get over Gaborik.

It looks like there's not too much left to negotiate to be honest.

Variance, cap for next year and pension plans. If the NHL gets the variance they want (or closer to what they want) in exchange for agreeing to the NHLPA's interpretation of the pension plan, all that remains is the cap for next year and I can't imagine that'll take too long to negotiate.

From NHL player: "How they respond to our latest proposal will determine if we disclaim or not." Huge meeting tonight to say the least

It would of course suck not to be able to give this group of players 2 seasons to go at it. The more freedom you have the better, that's always the case.

But, even if Gabby isn't traded, for all we know he might refuse to waive his NTC -- that's why he got it to start with -- or Slats/Torts want to keep him, the other options aren't bad either. You get paid for what you give up. That's all I am saying. Just for example, if we trade Cally, McD, Girardi or Staal, we could get a return that match what we give up. I mean, and again just for example, we wouldn't trade Marc Staal or McD for like two b-tier prospects and a 2nd round pick. If Slats would decide to trade Marc Staal to say a PHX, with a new owners looking to head start the rebuild, we could possibly get like Gormley and a 1st in return.

Boston was forced to dump Phil Kessel and got Dougie Hamilton and Tyler Seguin to show for it...

My point is just, its not a nightmare to have too many good players. We have some flaws on our roster. Mainly no RH PPQB. But could also upgrade in other areas. We are loaded on LD. In the PO's, we only had one center who produced.

What could we get if we moved any of the following pieces:
-Gabby?
-Staal or McD?
-Stepan and or MDZ?

I really like that Ryan Murphy kid in Carolina. Right handed, world class PPQB. I have a very hard time seing him not becoming a top 5-10 scoring D in this league. Sure, it would suck tremendously to loose Marc Staal, but it would feel a little better if we like got Ryan Murphy and a couple of 1st's from Carolina for him...

Would EDM trade Nail Yakubov staright up for Staal?

Could we get Bjugstad from Florida for Stepan?

Staal to EDM for Yakubov and Stepan and Boyle to FLA for the rights to Bjugstad and Kulikov:
Nash-Richards-Pyatt
Hagelin-Yakubov-Gabby
Kreider-Bjugstad-Callahan
Asham-Halpern-Rupp
McD-Girardi
MDZ-Kulikov
Strålman-Sauer

...and all the cap-space in the world...

I can't say any of those teams would do those trades. Especially Florida.

Yakupov isn't a center though.

Indeed. IF we were ever in need of moving a player to clear space, Sather is going to maximize the value of whoever gets dealt. I don't subscribe to the theory that we'll get little in return because teams know it's a salary dump.

If you believe, as I do, we'll get 48 gm season, anything that happens tonight is all part of plan. Game of chicken continues. Sad.

I think the PA is leaking all of this disclaimer stuff to try and put the NHL's backs to the wall a bit. I'm personally not all too worried about it.

Every game that you're over the cap, you forfeit.

well if the Rangers can get McDonagh for Gomez, imagine what Sather can get for Gaborik... Sather must try for a top 5 pick for Gaborik. Rangers havent had those in a long time.

well if the Rangers get less for Gaborik then they should keep him.. if the Rangers wont get a first round pick 1-5 overall but i can settle for 6-15, they should keep him and try to resign him to a 3 year at most deal..
