Tough one. Rask has been the better playoff goalie, but still hasn't really played a whole season as a starting goaltender. I know it's for the Cup, but I wanna see what they do in the regular season before they get to the Cup first.
Backstrom has put up some pretty good numbers on some BAD teams in Minnesota for the past few seasons. I'll give Backstrom some love, and take a gamble on him.
Backstrom is a top 10 goalie Rask is promising but he has a lot to prove before he gets to that level. I'm shocked this is so close but ill chalk it up to the east coast bias.

Rask led the NHL in Save Percentage & GAA in the only season that he was the starter for the Bruins.

45 games doesn't qualify you as a legit starter. Backstrom has proven he can put up excellent numbers playing 60-70 games multiple times on a bunch of very mediocre teams. Like I said Rask may surpass him very soon but at this point he hasn't.

I don't care who you prefer but for the sake of accuracy, Backstrom played 70 games one time and 60 games one time, so if by multiple times and a bunch of teams you mean 2 you would be correct.
I prefer Rask because I have watched them both play and I like Rask better, it doesn't really matter that Rask played 45 games once, 29 and 25 the other years as a backup. There also isn't a goalie alive who would have played much more on the Bruins than Rask did when you consider they had a goaltender winning 2 Vezina trophies in Rask's 3 years.
Rask doesnt have the experience yet to be chosen over Backstrom.
If that is true, then I am guessing Brian Elliot doesn't have the experience to be chosen over him and Jaroslav Halák doesn't have much more experience than Elliot.
Are you really going to choose someone just because of how many games they have played or are you going to let your eyes tell you who is better?
Would be interesting to see what kind of numbers Rask would put up playing with our crappy defense in front of him instead of one of the best defenses in the league.
Think I chose Rask a little too quickly on this one. I admit I have a bit of a man crush on the guy ever since I saw him play the Wild a few years ago at the X. I'm still gonna go with Rask, but it's closer than a lot of people want to believe. There is no goaltender in the game better positionally than Backstrom, and I'm serious about that. It's the rebounds and the cross creasers that put Backstrom into big time trouble. If he's out of position, he's screwed. He doesn't have the quickness of goalies like Rask to recover as easily.
