I realize there have been threads about this subject in the past but none overly that recent
I also realize that this still incredibly premature to be discussing but since I have a sim league draft approaching and with the WJCs coming to a close I figured now would be as good of time as any to ask the masses on here
Which player(s) taken in the 2012 draft would you select higher today based on they've played over the course of the current season? I am mainly looking for the guys taken in the 2nd-7th rounds but late 1st round picks also would be acceptable.
Some rationale accompanying your player choices would also be very much appreciated
Thanks a bunch in advance and I look forward to hearing all of your responses
Damon Severson, D - Kelowna, picked 60th overall by NJ. Kids has been very good for the Rockets this year, was originally ranked in the early part of the 2nd rd but nearly dropped to the 3rd. NJ was looking for forwards but when he was still there at #60, they had to take him...
I love Matt Finn. Very solid two-way defender, oozes hockey sense. Also I like Dalton Thrower. He hasn't had the best start, but has really come on lately. Very physical, great skater and good offensive instincts.
For picks later than the 2nd round, I really like Seth Griffith, Justin Kea, Tim Bozon, Joey LaLeggia, Riley Barber, Shayne Gostisbehere, Travis Brown, and Mikael Wikstrand.
Charles Hudon is definitely a potential steal in the 5th round (122nd overall).
I agree. He's looked really impressive every time I see him. I'd say Matt Finn, but I might be biased because I have seen him a lot in Guelph. Definitely looks like he could be a steal from where he was taken.
Wasn't he drafted in 2011? (this is a 2012 draft steal thread)
my bad. Andreas Athanasiou 4th round #110 overall is pretty good so far, He has 40 pts 17G 23A in 36 games his previous high was 37pt 22g 15A in 67 games, and has top end speed.
I'll take a look at my favorite steals per round (minus the 1st), based on early impressions:
2nd Round: Matt Finn and Jake McCabe. Had Finn ranked in the top 15. He really should have went in the 1st. McCabe looks like another excellent defenseman to come out of Wisconsin, would have liked him at the end of the 1st.
3rd Round: Matt Grzelcyk. Has been superb at BU and their defense literally fell apart last week when he was gone.
4th Round: Erik Gustafsson. Really like his offensive ability, has a good first pass, nice hard shot, and looks good QBing a PP.
5th Round: Too many in this round, but Charles Hudon, Joey Laleggia, Ryan Culkin, Seth Griffith, Danny O'Regan, and my only homer vote Ben Hutton.
6th Round: Riley Barber
7th Round: Mikael Wikstrand, hands down. He has looked great each time i've seen him.

Collberg could be added to the list as well. It is a toss up, but I think he could have gone in the 1rst round. At least the end of it....
