Like I said, it could be nothing; however, if we're going to refrain from any speculation, this is going to be an awful quiet place.

That's precisely what they are doing, and I concur.

Just as Dreger said, it will only happen if talks go sour, and if they go sour at this point, the season (if not the league) is over.

Maybe Chris Christie can come out and SLAM Fehr and Bettman like he did Boehner.

Been there. Done that.

It's another one of these typical fights between billionaires and millionaires that can't figure out how to divide the money up, and you've got to wonder about the leadership of the National Hockey League," said Christie, via the Bergen Record. The temporary solution: Fix it and get hockey started for the fans.

The smart (and prolonged) solution: Fix it from the roots up. Remove Bettman & Co, form new league, remove deadweight, form new league rules. Make sure this never happens again.

Unfortunately even the smartest of NHL fans is rooting for #1 on the list because we want hockey already, even though #2 is the smart choice.

All a deal would really do is delay the inevitable again in 8-10 yrs.

Settling pension early 2nite would be key 2 getting #CBA deal done. Big $ still at stake 4 #NHL #NHLPA. Other issues left will follow easier

League is waiting for players reaction to their response tonight. Both sides are currently in caucus.

Hilarious stuff. Some of the photoshops have been gold, but the Gangam Style video takes it.

Hearing both sides disappointed with lack of true movement in each other's new positions today... Key is to keep talking though..

I wish LeBrun never said that. The main board's lockout thread is full of crying now.

Not sure why people don't realize it's going to be all posturing up until practically the moment a deal is reached. That's just how it works.

It's going straight to the deadline if there's a season or not. They all came this far.

Maybe threat of NHLPA "disclaimer of interest" gets a deal done before midnight. But if it doesnt & NHLPA dissolves, the show will go on

Nothing filed yet, looks like they're still negotiating.

Good sign.

With all the pizza talk on the main boards, I guess we should bring back the "Official Pizza [CBA] Push" avatars.

Edit - Apparently I wasn't sarcastic, since I'm using one from three years ago.

What is left to negotiate now?
  • Escrow?
    Quote:
    Renaud Lavoie ‏@RenLavoieRDS
NHLPA decided to make an important concession. They don't ask for a cap on escrow anymore.
  • Pensions?
  • Cap-hit ceiling for 2013/2014?
    Quote:
    Chris Johnston ‏@reporterchris
A major issue still to be resolved in NHL talks is the 2013-14 salary cap. League looking for $60M, NHLPA asking for $65M
    .
    Quote:
    Travis Yost ‏@TravisHeHateMe
Hm. @reporterchris suggesting NHLPA offering $65M cap for '13-'14. That's $2M less than last offer, IIRC. Now, $5M gap in-total.
  • Compliance buyouts?
  • Discipline commitee?
  • Realignment?
  • Eventually buying/Trading of cap space?

Anything else?

Andy Strickland tweets that at least one players believes that they are fighting for a higher cap not only for themselves, but for many NHL teams as well.
Nice

The players are seeking a 66 million cap for next season. The NHL has not budged from 60 million. Still remains an issue.
So $67M goes down by $1M. Or 2 - depending on who you prefer to believe.

$64M sounds about right...

http://www.blueshirtbanter.com/2013/...s-negotiations

Quote:
One of the many remaining issues between the two sides starts with the proposed $60 million salary cap ceiling in the second year of the CBA. The players are looking to raise that number up a bit in the range of $64-$65 million. It was also believed that the union was seeking a cap on escrow, but that doesn't appear to the case anymore as it's not been formally proposed. Finally you have the player pensions, which were said to be agreed upon in the past, but with some recent tweaks by the NHL that is no longer the case.
Not much left to squabble about it seems
  • Cap next year
  • Pensions

Get er done & drop the bloody puck
