he was arguably the best player on the ice, i feel he was anyways. Unreal end to end rushes, spins, passes, shots etc. got one of his goals disallowed too but yeah, just no bounces went his way stat wise? a lot of what would have been 3rd assists and stuff.

I think the chances are very slim that Hockey Canada would bring a 16 year old to the U20's next year. He is an exceptional hockey player but i just can't see this happening.

we have tremendous problems with goal tending, haven't had that for a while, now lack of cohesion in NT game is showing big time. We had been spoiled by Bobkov/Makarov/Vasilevskiy as of late.

I have never cared about this tournament before, but I find it really fun to watch. How have we done in the past years and do we have any chance of beating USA and/or Ontario?

Anyone know why Team Pacific has played Lee in goal all 3 games. Save % is .790 and GAA of 6.78?? Is Papirny hurt?

We've competed sparsely in this tournament. Before 2010 there was a significant amount of time where we didn't play.

2010-Bronze.
2011-Didn't participate.
2012-4th place.

We have a chance against USA and Ontario, especially with this age group. We need a top goaltending effort and our best players need to have good days. I hope we keep sending teams to this tournament. It's a great introduction to the small ice, and it gives you a routine of playing important games.

I think this tournament is taking on more significance now. The top nations outside of Canada's teams and the US have cycled in and out of the tournament over the years which would weaken the field from time to time. There was also a good amount of time where the Canada Winter Games would replace the tournament every third year or so.

It seems it'll be around every year now and if the past two years are any indication, all the top hockey countries will be participating regularly. I'd like to see Canada ice three teams (combine Atlantic and Quebec as well as West and Pacific) instead of five and I think the tournament would be even more competitive.

I'm torn. On one hand, it would definitely make the top end of the tournament more competitive...On the other hand, most of the non Canada/US teams would be shut out of the medals, every year. West/Pacific would be a very, very strong team. I say split the difference and merge ATL/QUE but keep the western teams separate.

Also, add a non-NTDP USA team to replace a weaker country like Slovakia.

The tournament would ideally look like: CAN ONT, NTDP USA, Non NTDP USA, CAN PAC, CAN WEST, CAN EAST, SWE, RUS, FIN and one more country.

If you could get those countries to participate every year, the tournament would be very strong.

Because Team Pacific likes to implode itself. Year after year and all that talent and they never come close to winning this tourney

I'm wondering about this myself too. As a Giants fan I can't believe these are the numbers he's putting up. He's use to playing in front of a horrible defense already so that can't be the reason.

Have you seen any of the games?

Lee was pretty good in an 8-7 win.

The chances that are usually served up at this level generally start with a missed assignment and a point blank chance from 10-20 feet from the net.

He's not playing 'lights out' but goalie #'s at this tournament isn't a great depiction about how they are playing.

Apparently it's unlikely Eichel and Iverson will return to play for the US in the tournament due to injury. That leaves the US with just 10 healthy forwards.

I was not very impressed with the play from the US team today against Slovakia despite the score and I think they'll have a very tough time making it through to the finals. I'd think at this point whoever wins the game between Ontario and Sweden will likely win the final game (Of course I'm assuming Ontario beats Quebec, which seems highly likely to me having seen both teams).

Always sad to see injuries play a part especially with kids. Was it last year or the year before that Ontario was down to nine forwards for the final?

Ontario obviously more talented but Quebec a tad more disciplined and Billia seems to be in his zone.

Quebec might've blown their chance there with the 5 min PP they wasted away. But with spectacular goaltending and good discipline in the 3rd anything can happen.
