Most people hate Bettman and want worst from NHL

That is how these rumors start ,, Everyone in world including NBC was aware a lockout was coming

They would have no shot in court to win ,, They could walk away from NHL but paying 2B for nothing is pointless

Absolutely. Every word out of Walsh's mouth is fabricated bull **** to benefit his clients. That's his job, and I would expect nothing less.

NHL team executive furious that the guys who build teams, know CBA and business inside out completely frozen out by Bettman.

Wordage in the contract doesn't cover everything, several times things have been in contracts that haven't covered what they intended for any number of reasons.

Simply put the contract is so that NBC could broadcast X number of games. A judge could easily rule that the NHL by not playing the games violated the contract and no wordage can save them from that breach. Plus it's not a road the NHL wants to even think about going down. NBC is literally the only network the NHL could find to broadcast it, lose out on that and the NHL loses billions of dollars and can't afford to risk it.

A suit between NBC and NHL would be disasterous for both sides

NHL will happen, folks. Extreme optimists say tonight--cautious say the 10th/11th. Still far on pension & that's very important to players

Told by NHL sources. Owners and league pleased with new CBA! Pension already funded, just playing games. Sponsorship money intact

What is interesting now are the internal and external pressures in play that are driving the two sides to get a CBA done. There’s the pressing timeline of course – to save the season a deal needs to be in place probably within 2 weeks at the latest. The NHL and Bettman, apparently are being pressured from at least two fronts: the sponsors and NBC… and of course Bettman himself from the owners that he represents. Fehr, surely must be feeling it as well. He has the pending “disclaimer of interest” which no one wants … and the players will be pressing him to get the best deal now. Bettman and Fehr are still in a cat and mouse game and that will likely continue well into today and possibly for another week or more … but it seems both are finally ready to negotiate after months of posturing (from both) . The way I see it, the absence of leaks to the press is part of the process to save face for both of these guys. Pretty pathetic really, what they’ve put the fan base through, with their respective egos in full view.

This is getting ridiculous. Meet for 10 min then call it a day, and now it's down to pensions. What's next per diem? What toilet paper teams have to offer to the players?

GET IT DONE!

There's no real hurry. Its a 48 game schedule or its no season. As I said earlier, they are targeting a January 19th start date. Probably have this wrapped up (if there is a deal) by the end of the weekend, camp starts the 12th.

Hey - with all the chapped posteriors this last month, Charmin vs Cottonelle is a major negotiating issue

From NHL player: "How they respond to our latest proposal will determine if we disclaim or not." Huge meeting tonight to say the least
Threatening NHL after several days of progress is goign to derail entire thing IMO

That 'threat' has been there for weeks, this is nothing new. If the NHL says they arent moving off of their offer, then its their fault the PA disclaimed.

The NHL has moved off there final offer and made concessions in recent days (It was them who got this ball rolling again with whole new offer)

NHLPA is moving goalposts again ,, Turning issues like Pensions into a fight now

Th PA has moved just as much...I also love how you called it their final offer..don't you mean final final final final offer that is a take it or leave it?

And actually, its the NHL that has pulled the pension plan they agreed to in early December.

Perhaps the most gratifying part of this lockout ending (whenever it does) will be no longer having to sift through some of you sucking up to your NHL owner or NHLPA masters like good little lapdogs.

Looks like we are coming up on point that we close book on 2012-13 season

I'm every bit as pessimistic as you are on the issue of the lockout, BWC, but I don't see how those quotes suddenly guarantee no season. Both are things we already knew weeks ago.

Someone help me with this disclaimer thing. First time I've felt clueless. Don't truly understand it. I, in advance, thank you for help/information.

A disclaimer of interest dissolves the Union and converts it into a trade association. That means that the NHLPA has revoked its ability to collectively bargain on behalf of the players.
